Admittedly not being a real metal-head myself, I kind of assumed an early death came with being a metal legend.

Dio was/is the best metal vocalist of all time.

Yes, and it really had nothing to do with the devil.  It was actually a well-wishing gesture, kind of in the same spirit as the peace sign. 

But of course, if you ask Gene Simmons, HE invented it. 

On another note, Ronnie James Dio's death is pretty much the first death of Metal royalty.  Sure there have been some big name deaths in metal like Dimebag.  But it was inevitable that the founding fathers of Metal would eventually pass on.  Hopefully the Halfords, the Iommis, the Blackmores (okay he is very un-metal these days), have a lot more life in them.  But who would've thought Ozzy Osbourne would've outlived Dio? 

Dio was huge in Metal and I'd love to see him get a send-off tribute concert like Freddy Mercury got when he died.

Also, dude belongs in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame but will obviously never get there.

Meh, Dio just moved to a wider audience.  He couldn't contain all of his power for us mere mortals.
