NANOTUBES.

CHECK IT. MY OVERALLS JUST TURNED INTO A PINSTRIPE SUIT.

And fabric that behaves like an LCD.

Hmm.  Here's a thought.  Will this constant stream of gimmicks result in a backlash?  A group of "fashion neutral" people who all dress blandly and functionally as possible?

I'm seeing grey bodygloves, boots, and a few pouch pockets.

I don't think there is such thing as "fashion neutral."

I used to think so and tried to be fashion neutral, but the best you can do is just not give a fuck.

No matter what you wear, it suggests something about you.

I see what you mean.  Since high school I've been dressing with the intention of being judged a certain way.

I think nano-clothes are not going to be out any time soon.

Other eletronic clothes, maybe.
For example this stuff:

Geeky at the moment, but give it 10 years, and you'll have people wearing shirts connected up to their iPhones and the like.
It's not trolling, it's just satire.

I frankly don't care as long as it stops looking like the 80s warmed over.
"I dispose of obsolete meat machines.  Not because I hate them (I do) and not because they deserve it (they do), but because they are in the way and those older ones don't meet emissions codes.  They emit too much.  You don't like them and I don't like them, so spare me the hysteria."

But that is what the future looks like.  They just didn't have powerful enough lasers to back it up.

I can't wait to see the first guy wearing a suit jacket and tie with a anarchy symbol t-shirt below it.

That sounds like my style.  The only problem with T-shirt + tie is that since t-shirt's don't have collars tying the tie is kind of a pain.
You're a special case, Babylon.  You are offensive even when you don't post.

Merely by being alive, you make everyone just a little more miserable

At the HOPE conference a few years ago, I heard a talk by a guy who was designing his own biofeedback gear. He had a had which lit up different colored LEDs when certain parts of his brain were active.

"Is that useful for anything?"

"Mainly just picking up chicks."

well I guess that's why we have fashion, no?

He also had a little scrolling LED marquee pinned to his shirt. I'm pretty sure you can get those for under 10 bucks now.

New types of textiles could potentially create new waves in fashion, but how can we ever top POLYESTER?

If we want a clue as to what direction it's going, we can take a peek at futurism and music videos. Fashion right now totally looks like our conception of the future 15 years ago. In the 90s I recall we thought of the future as being sort of white and clean and everybody wears giant sunglasses. And that look definitely exists in the streets of new york right now.

Jasper

Point.  So is Gaga-esque stuff going to be normal in a decade?

Like in Bad Romance.  The guy with the cyborg jaw.  He looked like a bit of a tool, but the effect was still kind of cool.  I could totally see people wearing bits of faux-armor that make body parts look mechanical.  There have been stupider fads.

Hello, future? Is it possible to order a pizza using my sunglasses yet?

maybe not perfect predictions of future fashion, but we can definitely see some themes
