That is fucking unsettling as fuck.

I like the shape of the abdomen. Or what I can see of it. Looks brainy.

Pretty impressive. Are you animating as well or just modelling?
Nine naked Men just walking down the road will cause a heap of trouble for all concerned.

P3nT4gR4m

Not animating per se but this is the result of my first attempt to rig for posing rather than animation. Was going great til I went hipoly and sculpted a whole bunch of detail that became detached from the rig so I had to dump 3 million odd polygons and go back to the base mesh which looks like this

The detail sculpting was only an hours work, been practicing that quite a bit so it's no great loss but the rigging part took ages. Like all these things it'll get better wi practice

Here's some other random shit I've been fucking around with. Learning a whole creation pipeline here from Blender, via photoshop into unreal engine 4.

I've seen worse staircases in AAA games. Very nice!

What's the VR project? Or are you still at the fucking around stage?
Nine naked Men just walking down the road will cause a heap of trouble for all concerned.

P3nT4gR4m

Very much the fucking around stage. Quick fire projects, as they come to me, intended to be half finished if that. Lot of technical stuff to wrap my head around. Need to approach it in bite size chunks.

I'm giving myself about 6 months to get up to speed with the toolkit and then the plan is to create "Spaces" think VR equivalent of desktop wallpaper or ringtones. I reckon these will be a quick kill market when VR kicks off, however many years from now. I want to be in on the ground floor with a site full of - The bridge of the nostromo - and - the city of rivendell - and abstract trip mandala lazor pulsing brain flatteners.

Zuckerberg is right - VR is going to be social as fuck. People going to want places to hang out and do the shit they do in the IRL whilst they're learning the new shit they can do in cyberspace actual. I'ma give them a bunch of free ones and some premium shit they gotta blockchain me for. If I eventually get really good there's the bespoke route. Top dollar for unique, one-off experience. They look awesome and that's a great idea! People are already plying that trade in Second Life (and I guess other games in various guises - hats/skins etc).

VR has the potential to be bigger than any of those though. Maybe.

I think VR will come and go. In the first manifestation. Not even sure if the mainstream will buy into it. There's limited use cases. I think shit like Oculus and Vive and the mobile shit is ultimately a dead end form factor. AR on the other hand, I'm pretty confident, will take the world by absolute fucking storm and VR, as an extended function of AR will finally find a place. So there's probably a gap period where VR stays niche and AR has to moore's law it's way down to something like a normal pair of sunglasses or contacts to gain widespread adoption.

In the meantime I get my Oculus Touch in less than a month and I canModel entirely in VR! :hammer:

The average homosapien is highly susceptible to effective 2-d media manipulation.  VR is a more impactful tool for impacting the psyche by a factor that could be employed to compare a toffee hammer to a gigaton-yield nuclear warhead. There's little doubt in my mind that vast swathes of the populace will become programmable zombies. Programmable, not by clever manipulation and lots of knowledge of psychology and neuroscience but by assets downloaded from the interbutts.

VR will herald the dawn of, among other things, the weaponised meme.

My dad was at some sort of Microsoft conference recently and apparently the hot topic was AR.

I suppose that 3d modelling experience is useful in either medium.

I think that a big drawback of VR is that with the headset etc on is that it's such a lonely experience. You can't interact at all really with the people who may be around you in reality. Is virtual contact enough for people? It's fun for a while but maybe not mainstream or long term adoption. AR may be a good workaround - and I can imagine a lot more practical potential uses for AR than VR.

Having said that I do plan on getting a VR headset - probably the PSVR if some interesting looking games come out.
