SHOULD your motorcycle wobble, replace or fix it.

NEVER let your motorcycle sit in the garage too long.

WEAR proper safety gear when operating your motorcycle.

BE sure to signal when changing lanes.  IF weather is inclement, ride with caution.

ONLY use your motorcycle for roads it was designed for.

SAME goes for reality models, obviously.

Thanks cram, I didn't finish the book,
After reading the intro, kinda gave away the ending
Totally ruined my mood, so far let three other people read it
Look, asshole:  Your 'incomprehensible' act, your word-salad, your pinealism...It BORES ME.  I've been incomprehensible for so long, I TEACH IT TO MBA CANDIDATES.  So if you simply MUST talk about your pineal gland or happy children dancing in the wildflowers, go talk to Roger, because he digs that kind of shit

I really like that book. I'm sorry the ending got blown for you - it was stupid of pirsig to give away the twist in the forward.

Gave away the entire books theme, and while it didn't say it. It read like he was trying to replace the meme "your body is a temple" with "your body is a motorcycle"

the book's not really about zen either

Isn't there a lot more Greek philosophy than Zen in the book?

I've put a copy on my Kindle but I've been distracted by other reading.

TGRR, is that a particular motorcycle in your emote of the correct motorcycle?  is it an enduro type bike?

also, is ZatAoMM a fairly quick read?  i believe i recall seeing it in the store, and it being a slender book of modest size...  if so, i'd like to wedge it into my reading stack...

this is one of my motorcycles next to some rocks i found in the woods.

I had the exact same thing. I was reading the forward... and there isn't even a fucking SPOILER ALERT, ITS JUST, HEY GUYS JUST SO YOU KNOW THERES THIS TWIST IN THE STORY SO JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISS IT HERE IT IS NOW FOR YOU.

Fuck that.
- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

yeah, mostly greek philosophy. He's really focused on this divide between the classical and romantic worlds. That split manifests as a tension between arts and sciences. Pirsig thinks that this is originally Aristotle's fault and talks about the ways that we've reified this bad Ancient Greek idea over the centuries. He also talks about how more modern philosophers (Hume, off the top of my head) deal with these problems.

It's pretty dense, but he writes in a conversational tone. I had to read a bunch of stuff twice because he's talking about philosophy, and I find that more comprehensible if I read it slowly.

As for the book's spoiler:

I find the book's plot is kind of secondary to the ideas he's discussing. It bites to have the twist spoiled, but I think it's still a good read even if you know what's up. (providing that talking about Quality doesn't bore the pants off of you)

The correct motorcycle depends entirely on where you're going and how you want to get there.
