They want to eliminate the office of liutenant governor?  Who do they want in charge if the governor gets killed?

Secretary of State.

The LT. Governor of RI notoriously does nothing. You sit in a big office, get a big paycheck, and pretty much do NOTHING.

From the outset of campaign season, several candidates advocated eliminating the office. They argued, why pay $99,000 to someone whose official duty is to replace the governor if he or she dies or becomes incapacitated? And why pay their staff? (All acknowledged that the only way to eliminate it is through constitutional revision).
