QuoteHe later labeled it a "Million Moderate March." The purpose, he said, is to counter what he called a minority of 15 percent or 20 percent of the country that has dominated the national political discussion with extreme rhetoric. He tarred both parties with that charge, mentioning both the attacks on the right against President Obama for being everything from a socialist to un-American and on the left against former President Bush for being a war criminal.

Looks like a direct fucking comparison to me.

It also ignores the fact that the Truthers, Code Pink and others considered fringe left in America have almost no political representation or power, whereas...well, last week Newt Gingrinch, the former Speaker of the House of Reps, was implying very heavily that Obama is from Kenya, and over 40% of the Republican party believe he is a socialist radical.

DC is only 6-8 sometimes 10 hours away...Oh how I would love to go down there for this.

To be fair, those were NYTimes's words, not Stewart's. At least I couldn't find that pov on his site or in the video clip. He does say you shouldn't compare Bush to Hitler, though

He mostly seems to want people to shout less hyperbole and crazy ideas, regardless whether it's Bush or Obama you wanna call Hitler.

He's not gonna take a stance, he just wants people to shout less.

Which would be fine if both sides were actually in reality both somewhat sensible, but people are hyping it up. Except the problem is, one side is pretty damn bad, and the other flat out horrible.

I like his GOT COMPETENCE? slogan a lot more, TBH.

INFORMATION SO POWERFUL, YOU ACTUALLY NEED LESS.

Jenne

I heart Jon Stewart, like, A LOT.  I'd even have his babbies if he'd ask me, and such a prospect could potentially kill me due to my current state of health.

HARRUMPH

Be that as it may, the tenor of even his little vid clip announcing the rally was a bit, shall we say, OVER THE TOP in calling out "bad behavior"...he even called himself out with his "GO FUCK YOURSELF" dance he's done on his show a few times.

But I do get what he's saying, and he's had a trend of really being "over it" for a while now.  I mean, he's REALLY tired and heartsick over how shittily the last couple of years have gone.  But then he and Colbert practically cried and were all choked up when Obama won the presidency, so I think he's just really really emotionally invested and needs a barstool over the head.

I think the tack Colbert's taking is much more in line--he's poking fun at the Teabaggers but meanwhile showing that this is actually a pretty serious gag if you want to take it that way.  I'm not usually a fan of Colbert OVER Stewart when it comes to schtick, but in this, I have to say I like Colbert's methodology a lot better.

I wish I could go, dammit.

They are going to be in DC all week, try postergasming on Friday   :fnord:

I'll be doing this, definitely.
Are there any suggestions on which poster sets would be most effective?
I'm thinking that Aleph, Calvinball, and part of Volume Butts would be the best to post around.
I'm also going to try to initiate the largest game of pirate pass-off ever.

American idol jokes about voting. Put up signs to vote for palin on dancing with the stars. Maybe dick jokes
Look, asshole:  Your 'incomprehensible' act, your word-salad, your pinealism...It BORES ME.  I've been incomprehensible for so long, I TEACH IT TO MBA CANDIDATES.  So if you simply MUST talk about your pineal gland or happy children dancing in the wildflowers, go talk to Roger, because he digs that kind of shit

There's a Capitol Mall on the west coast

:lulz:

I am so so so going to attend the rally at Capital Mall.  :lulz:
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

This has me thinking we should posterize downtown Olympia and advertise the rallies.

I want to mimic the ones from  dc as much as possible

Maybe to prevent confusion we could cross out dc and write in State
