For my part, I've replaced optimism and believing the best of people by default with a grin and the absolute 100% certainty that if they cannot find a pig to fuck, they will buy some bacon and play oinking noises on YouTube.

I saw this the other day on some tech site.

meh, I'll wait for the Bleeding Edge suit.

Unimpressed?  They've cut power consumption by half!  And they're working on down to 20% of the original.

I know it can't fly and doesn't have ion cannons, and it can't morph onto your carapace from briefcase mode, but shit.

Don't let it punch you.

Can you flick a fly off your shoulder without breaking every bone in said shoulder while wearing the suit?  As I understand it (ie; was told by an independent consultant who had worked for the American military on R&D projects) that is the constant failing of all of these exo-skeleton attempts - calibrating the strength so it is deadly to others without being deadly to the pilot.

seems logical to me (but maybe not real world possible) that with motion capture tech and 3d software you could limit power ranges the same way you would limit motion to certain coordinate regions.  That way, if you're moving the limbs of the  suit toward your core it would automatically power down the hydraulics?

this could just all be a bout of mental masturbation as I haven't researched the suits tech myself.

That would be sensible and smart, and it even sounds theoretically possible.  Of course, given the corruption of military procuments, it may simply be the case that not installing such safety features makes the units much cheaper to produce.

At first but after the first 100 or so minor to serious injuries sustained from shit like that, safeties will be installed, the line will be scrapped or they will introduce training with the exo-suits at an earlier phase of training to instill the need to not scratch your fucking back while using the suit.

If you need to (for instance) swat a fly on your shoulder, you could always just, I dunno, let go of one of the arm controls and do it.

But that doesn't cost millions of dollars, so it's hardly worth considering.  This is the Pentagon we're talking about here.

I'm finding the Honda Walking Assist devices much more interesting. They're focusing on finessing the tech to get it right (target market are the aging Japanese population). I'm sure the Tim Taylor "More Power *ook ook ook*" will come later.

I keep forgetting most kids didn't grow up with no real masculine role models except for 40K orks.

FIXED.

also yeah I was unimpressed. mostly because I felt the reason the video was so short and unspecific, because those shots probably were the most impressive bits they could show. Ok, this being army tech it could also be that the awesome stuff is classified, But somehow I'm not entirely buying that.

One of those things could quite easily use a Browning .50 Cal and ammo to spare, I'm guessing.

Fuck your LAVs.
