Cram, I had that issue to contend with before I got my "ink" as well.  What I came up with is this:  if you "move past" the symbol and "are over it" once it's permanent, you can 1) consider it as part of your personal history--look back and go, oh yeah, that really meant something to me at one time!  Good times! 2) get it covered over or 3) (not really used very often) get it removed.

I like the fact I overcame a LOT of personal, familial and cultural stigma to get my tatts.  Their permanence doesn't bother me in the least.

And this is someone who has 2 butterflies on her toes and a child's palm-sized rose in full bloom on her right scapula.  Fluffy, sure, but all mine?  You betcha.

When it comes to ink, it's a must to consider "will I regret this" as your uppermost thought when it's your first one--but you can't always count on personal aesthetic longevity--life is short enough as it is.  But if it's something you're fully embracing, right now, and have for a while, you'll be more prone to enjoy it as your skin gets wrinkly and the shiny newness of it fades over the years.

I was SO close to getting a (c)1982 tattoo. And then I found out about the Creative Commons. My thoughts on the matter have come a long way since then. I don't know that I could stomach a copyright tattoo now. It was a close call!

Have a golden apple on the left side of my skull and the eye on my. Right shoulder blade. For my back I was thinking a pyramid but not sure how its going to be laid ed out. Was thinking maybe a snake wrapped around it causing some of the bricks to fall off
Look, asshole:  Your 'incomprehensible' act, your word-salad, your pinealism...It BORES ME.  I've been incomprehensible for so long, I TEACH IT TO MBA CANDIDATES.  So if you simply MUST talk about your pineal gland or happy children dancing in the wildflowers, go talk to Roger, because he digs that kind of shit

Also still need to get my wedding tat. Round peg square hole ;)

I got a really crappy tat on my right arm when I was 18.
I liked it then, but hated it a few years later. Then I covered it up with

I like it a lot, but I probably never woulda thought about doing it had I not had that piece of shit to cover up. Who knows.

They are awesome, I would love tats but I'm not brave enough.

If I would ever get a tat, I would not make it symbolic, but just pretty. Nothing else on my body is symbolic, right? (Ok maybe my penis, but he's unique) And the only thing I like, so far, is the little five-pointed stars that some people have. Either filled or outlined (but not like a pentagram). Ok they're recent, new, might be a fad, but I know I didn't really like the tribal tattoos, or the ass-antlers. A shot in the right direction they were, but they still pretended to be symbolic for something instead of just pretty. While the stars are just pretty.

But then I think I don't really need one.

Do you already have a tattoo, Cram?

nope, no tattoos here.

I had my cartilage pierced for like 3 months, that's the only body mod I've ever had.

Triple Zero

sweeeeet which cartilage? according to wikipedia, "a flexible connective tissue found in many areas in the bodies of humans, including the joints between bones, the rib cage, the ear, the nose, the elbow, the knee, the ankle, the bronchial tubes and the intervertebral discs"

I thought it looked good but it got infected.

My standards for a tattoo are that they are personally meaningful, somewhat obscure, not likely to be embarrassing (at least to me) and relatively easy to hide. I have my avatar on here (alchemical symbol for summer) tattooed on my right hip. It's pretty much ideal for me.

Elder Iptuous

Trip, what are ass antlers?

I'm glad other people are willing to get tattoos so that i can enjoy them without having to get them myself.  I've got too many flaws on my skin already to risk getting more! i'm sure that if i got one, murphy would ensure that i'd end up on ugliesttatoos.com next to dickbutt, or something.

One time, when I was like 21, I designed this awesome logo that was a cross between the Sacred Chao and the Sigil of Baphomet, and I was absolutely certain I wanted it as a tattoo.

Six months later, when I had the money to do it, I decided it was the stupidest fucking thing I'd ever seen. So I blew the money on LSD and booze, and I'm pretty sure it was the right choice.
