Two years later, agents of the Libyan government bomb a flight bound for New York as it is passing over Scotland, killing 270+ people.  Nine months later, another Libyan luggage bomb detonates aboard UTA Flight 772, over Niger, killing 170 people.

And, amazingly, people didnt whine like babies that terrorists were an existential threat to our way of life and that is why we now must grope three year olds to make sure they're not toddler-suicide bombers.

There is a lesson in that, I feel.  Namely, people from the 21st century are pussies.

Additionally, does anyone other than me rembember the Pres. (or whoever) saying, immediately after the terror attack, that we should "go shopping" because if there is a drastic change in our way of life "the terrorists have already won"?

I wonder what changed the national dialogue.

I think America is paranoid.  Most of Europe and surrounding countries have dealt with terrorists from a lot of different factions for years.  It's not that they have become complacent by any means, just that they've had longer to deal with it and protect themselves from it.  And as a result, they have systems in place that work. 

However, it still goes back to if someone truly wants to do something, they will find a way around almost any type of security measure. 

I though there was a post about this using Ireland as an example but I can't find it.
