I get the exact same thing. I think it's damage to the rotator cuff or something else aggravating 'muscle-armor' in the rhomboids and the levator-scapulae.

I also recommend Tiger's Balm if you're not scared of camphor and menthol (it BURNS so GOOD).

What's up with the neck? We might have something for that!

Chronic muscle spasm in the left side of the neck, often with stiffness and pain running down to the area behind the left shoulder blade. Going on two years now.

Feel free to PM me if you want to get in touch (argh, pun....dammit RHWN!). Lately, I've been studying two Japanese systems for body re-alignment. Have some pretty good exercises and have had some success in self-treating my own neck problems. Still have some work to do on it.
