Politicians.  Kick 'em in the wallet opinion polls.

Because one follows the other, see.  But I totally agree that this was an awesome move.  Seems the protests are stronger when it's not the teachers leading it but rather the emergency responders.

Luna

Given that the bill signed actually exempts police and firefighters, extra points to the firefighters for protesting.

I'm digging the solidarity.  I know the so-called "Progressives" in Wisconsin are totally kicking themselves for not paying enough attention this last election cycle.

They chucked Feingold, the only honest senator in our nation's history.

That's all you really need to know.

Actually, the problem wasn't the public workers at all.  The problem was that the governor manufactured the budget "crisis" in order to stage this whole mess.

There was, according to the governor, a 137 million dollar deficit.

AFTER the governor handed 140 million in tax breaks to large corporations.

http://jacksonville.com/forums/politics-forum/2011-03-06/wisconsin-governor-gave-140-million-tax-breaks-corporations-last

This is completely inaccurate.

QuoteThere is fierce debate over the approach Walker took to address the short-term budget deficit. But there should be no debate on whether or not there is a shortfall. While not historically large, the shortfall in the current budget needed to be addressed in some fashion. Walker's tax cuts will boost the size of the projected deficit in the next budget, but they're not part of this problem and did not create it.

What the fuck?

:lulz:

His cuts boost the size of the deficit, but aren't part of the deficit problem?

The current deficit problem, yes:

"The tax cuts will cost the state a projected $140 million in tax revenue -- but not until the next two-year budget, from July 2011 to June 2013. The cuts are not even in effect yet, so they cannot be part of the current problem." - From the same Politifact page cited above

Ah, I see.  So HIS deficit is okay, because the money is going to corporate pigfuckers, and the dems deficit is bad, because a tiny fraction of it is going to teachers.

No, I think his tax cut for the pigfuckers is slimey on it's own.

But it did NOT cause the current deficit, as many leftists claim. There was no need for Maddow and others to propagate misinformation about it—this only weakens their argument.

What argument?  The firefighters, etc, there are doing just fine without the rest of the country kibbitzing.

The "progressive" vote had nothing to do with Wisconsin.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/states/US/H/00/epolls.0.html
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#val=USH00p1
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2010/results/polls/#USH00p1

Looks like the "moderate" (by which I assume they mean "independent") vote dropped by 6% over the last two years, while the liberal vote, after a drop in 2006, held steady.

What is happening is that Democratic partisans are framing it as a "progressives dropped the ball" issue so they can use this stick to beat the left of the party with when they start spouting (their admittedly highly naive and stupid) shit about primarying Obama in 2012 or not voting.

Because if the Republicans get back in, they may start torturing people and subverting the Constitution and stuff!

I'm so fucking pissed I could just put my fist through a triple pane window. I've watched as the ogliarchy/plutocracy has chipped away at everything that we had taken back from the robber barons. Everything that made this country almost bearable is being fucked with a corkscrew.

What the hell can I do? I don't live in Wisconsin. I mean, aside from donating money to ActBlue or MoveOn.org... since they all so adeptly pussyfooted through their opportunity to fix things, what is there? It's obvious the typical means just aren't going to work.

TGRR, ECH, Cain, what do we do? I'm almost a thousand miles away, I got not so much money, and I'm just a little guy, how can I fix this?

Anything. Hell, get bella on here to show me some black magic or something. Action is necessary, and I've been such a candy-ass for so long (assuming the natural order of things would fix themselves, I guess... I know, very naive) I have no idea what to do.

If it's best to let alone, fine... how do I get rid of this urge to stabbity stab GOPers and Tea Party fux?

Fortunately, oligarchy is self-correcting.

Eventually.

One way or the other.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the Tea Party.  I have a feeling those particular numpties have peaked, and while they may retain a few more years in the sun (especially thanks to marketing types with large databases), they too will go the way of "security moms".

Those senators who voted for the bill and upset a lot of people?

They should be very afraid.

It's not the death threats...

It's the fact that there are a LOT of people going to be looking VERY closely at them.

Take Senater Hopper, for instance.

According to reports, when protestors showed up at his house, his wife came out and informed them that he no longer lives there, Mr. "Family Values" been shacking up with his 25 year old mistress in Madison...
