Well, I know my ankle won't have improved by the next time I was scheduled, so I know it won't have improved when I'll actually get an appointment. Which means I will make an ass of myself until I get seen by at least one other doctor about my ankle and they explina to me how surgery will or won't fix this shit.

Military personnel would report for duty as normal during a shutdown. Reserve component personnel should check with their chain of command for more specific information. Civilian personnel who are performing work in activities exempted from the shutdown would continue to work during the period of a shutdown. Those not performing exempted duties would be furloughed – placed in a non-pay non-duty status – until an appropriation or continuing resolution is enacted.

Military personnel and civilians who would be required to work in exempted activities during will be entitled to be paid for work performed during the shutdown, and will be paid retroactively once the department receives additional funding. However, during a shutdown, the Defense Department would have no funds to pay military members or civilian employees for the days during which the government is shut down. Both military and civilian personnel should receive pay on time for the period worked prior to a shutdown.

Congress would have to provide authority in order for the department to retroactively pay non-excepted employees for a furloughed period.

Military retirement pay would not be affected by a shutdown and should continue without interruption.

Madigan Healthcare System: Madigan Healthcare System's care would focus on inpatient, urgent and emergency outpatient care, as well as urgent behavioral health care or crisis intervention. Some specialty services would remain open such as those for dialysis, hematology and oncology. All pregnancy and pediatric care will also continue, but pharmacy services will be limited. Scheduled appointments would not be canceled; however patients may be seen by different medical providers. Some specialty appointments, to include elective surgery may be curtailed. The appointment line at 1-800-404-4506 will remain open for beneficiaries to inquire about their appointments and for those in need of urgent "non-emergency" care. Medical care on the TRICARE network would continue.
