I believe there is some merit to this thought. Perhaps we should try to find a model to base this on?

It would have to be a large, populous superpower, armed with nuclear weapons, having an ideologically homogenous ruling class that agreed on everything but abortion and the fitness of the opposing class to rule and has lasted longer than 80 years.

While thought-provoking, I think the idea is utter rot. Surely the citizenry of the country would see right through the parties' unwillingness and/or inability to enact meaningful changes in policy?

I mean, people can't be that stupid. Not at all.
