Good, cause I lost the link and had to spend 10 minutes digging through my browser history to find it :)

And I'll explain further why I like it. I like it, because if artists really do live off tips, I want to tip them well, and in a way that they will actually get it. Hell, if record companies are being piece of shits, I'd rather pirate an album and send the artist money through paypal or something. I have no qualms about paying for music, as long as that money goes to the musician.

And Courtney Love did a pretty damn good job of selling herself in her own words in that article, without any fucking record company promotions, because it makes /me/ want to check out her music.

Courtney Love's music is almost as terrible as her personality. She's probably the worst person ever, though she's still spot-on in alot of that article.

I also follow the "if I like it I'll find a way to get the artists some of my money" rationalization for pirating music. But I do follow through; I'll buy a band's t-shirt direct from their website and/or see them live if I have the chance, both of which put FAR more money in their pockets than buying a CD. One flaw in that line of thinking, though, is that it excludes all the people who work in the music industry and aren't artists. That $15 for a CD doesn't just go to fattening Tommy Mottola's or David Geffen's pockets, it also goes to the audio engineers, producers, graphic artists, etc. who are instrumental in any given band's finished product.

I gotta say, there is nothing in this statement I disagree with.

Which is why fee-for-service models are better than pyramid schemes IMO.
