In the middle of the Mage's Guild now. Really enjoying their missions.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Was good but way to short for my liking.

Get a big-ass monitor instead of a TV regardless! They're cheaper, sharper, moar awesome and second monitor = FTW also with a laptop! Plus your shows won't get interrupted by commercials because it's not a fucking TV. It's win/win/win, seriously.

yeah, when I build my desktop (in a few months after I get a car and other shit) I'm gunna pick up a couple of HUGE ass screens, because holy shit, massive monitors are the best things!

I felt cheated at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline.

The whole thing seemed a little too cut and dry for me.

Think I'm officially done with it for a few years.  Level 60 and can just run through a dungeon swinging a sword without much worry about dying at all.  Found all of the Priest Masks and that was the last time I was in a place I had to worry about healing.  I've read you can level to around 80 if you max all abilities but I just don't have that sort of commitment.

Have a few "achievements" left but don't really give a fuck about false senses of accomplishment pushed by game developers.

Really, really great game.  No qualms on that front.  It deserves GotY.

Gamestop is offering something like $40 trade in value if you trade it in before Jan. 15 so I'll probably do that.  There's the Ultimate MvC3 release I really, really want to try because kicking people's ass with Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange gets me tingly in my nether regions.  I've also heard Dark Souls is being called the hardest game ever made.  I like a challenge like that.  Think I'll give it a shot.

Going to be hard to top Skyrim for years though.

A lot of people are reporting the latest patch is making Skyrim essentially unplayable for them.

I've also discovered a somewhat amusing bug, that causes the game, when anyone Shouts, to turn red and black.  It's actually kinda cool, gives you the impression that fucked up shit is going down, and you can still kinda see while the game is like that, but I can understand why people affected are not entirely impressed.

I'm actually glad this thread was bumped.  I fired up Skyrim a few weeks ago.

I decided to play a Conjurer this time, they always seemed like so much fun, so cool, and I was really hoping for a break from the Elder Scrolls left and right trigger button jam.  Have you met my Storm Atronach?  He's pretty cool, can tear through some necro - oh, he's stuck behind that little stone about a half mile back.  Again.  Yeah, he really likes it there.  His second favorite place is directly in front of me, immobile, unclippable, in a tiny narrow ass corridor in EVERY FUCKING DUNGEON IN THE GAME.  It's fucking 2011 (when the game came out), I was feeling pretty upbeat that maybe pathing was a problem of the last decade.  Not confident enough to take my housecarl along, though, because well, actually being able to use the tools the game provides you to the end they're intended is a little too much to hope for.

It's cool though, Conjuration is only my primary skill.  I can summon up a few Oblivion blades and dual wield and...jam on the left and right triggers over and over again.  In some dungeon that consists of undead with necromancers in it, bandits with necromancers in it, or undead with bandits in it.  I'm sure later they'll go from bandit thiefs to bandit sneakthiefs or bandit subterfuges or some shit.  The quest giver will likely send me through every incarnation of them, if I can find the motherfucker.  He's in Jorfukdahd right, so I'll just go there and, wait, is he in the basement or in the top?  Neither.  Okay, I"ll go out back and, nope, he's not there, okay is he wandering around town?  Nope, HE WAS IN JORFUKDAHD, at least he is now, just standing right at the entrance.  Apparently he's zoning around exactly when I am and I'm just sitting through load times to hand in some bullshit quest for no reason at all.  Great immersive world, dude, your wooden ass people all move around and shit.  I really hope they're having as much fun as I'm NOT having just running in circles.

It actually sucks, though.  I really like Elder Scrolls.  Morrowind was like crack to me when it came out and Oblivion was such a lush world.  Skyrim is big an open and grim and beautiful but it's just not doing it for me.  Maybe something clicked and I just can't hang with this kind of game anymore?  I don't know, I still seem to be doing fine with Fallout titles.

Cainad (dec.)

Heh, I got Skyrim for Christmas (that's mostly where I've been instead of here) and have been playing a Conjurer, and yet have had a very different experience.

I decided to do a version of what I did in Oblivion, which was a Breton conjuration-enchanting-sword & shield-light armor guy. I found basically all of these to be more satisfying than the previous game, especially Enchanting. Working towards being able to put two enchantments on one item at lvl 100 was a delicious prize and a great motivator, as well as being able to summon two Atronachs at once.
I chose a Breton for the Magic Resistance and a lot of my Enchanting went towards Magic Resistance. It's all well and good if a dude clubs me to death with a hammer, but I'll be fucking damned if I let another Mage whoop my ass. I basically eat Necromancers and Dragon Priests for breakfast now.

Also, I got the Khajiit follower, J'zargo, from the College, mostly because as a Destruction mage I knew he'd stay out of the way (I fucking HATE the way melee followers will blunder right into my path and then get pissed at me because they walked into my sword). He's alright, has no level cap, and is basically competent and can carry extra shit for me, but this one time... I think he may be the Dragonborn and not me, because when a dragon landed about 100 feet away from me, he had slaughtered with firebolts by the time I managed to sprint over to it to hit it with my sword  .

I also have to join the "ambivalent as fuck" crowd when it comes to the Civil War plotline. I literally have not touched it since leaving Helgen, and have deliberately ignored all prompts to join one side or the other. I find myself disliking both sides for different reasons, and don't feel like i have anything to gain from getting involved. So, that's a weakness I guess: one of the most central plotlines in the game doesn't interest me at all.

Funny thing is, I don't really disagree with any of the criticisms EoC has (although I didn't have as much problem with the Atronachs or my follower standing in my way). I guess it just is a testament to the subjectivity of these things that I was able to overlook those same flaws and enjoy the stuff that was good.

Don Coyote

Having done the civil war for both sides, I find myself siding with the Imperials more than the Stormcloaks. Ulfric is power-hungry and short-sighted, and so are most the Jarls that support him.

As far as followers, I did my first play through without one because they muck up sneaking.
Me: Ok let's sneak around
Follower : AMG AN ENEMY CHARGE!!!!!!
Me: well there goes the element of surprise.

Ranged followers seem to be the best way to go. None of this "Imma run RIGHT INTO YOUR FIREBALL THANE"
