The "green butterflies" was a subtle reference but I finally got it halfway through. "Biosurvival tickets", as RAW put it.

Exactly. I thought green butterflies was a poetic way of visualizing it.

And, (to everyone else, not just Kai) I'm not going to point it out directly, but, the intended message of this story actually has nothing to do with money. The reference is just there for setting. But I'll tell you this: If anyone else also thought that the butterflies were a subtle reference, the intended meaning would be practically invisible. Dunno if that's a good thing...

I honestly didn't even give a thought to the butterflies. I was totally caught up in feeling for Knows Nothing. The encounter at the end was one of the more emotionally stirring moments I've read in any piece of prose in quite some time. Sincerely.

I liked your story a lot as well, Dimo! I didn't reply at first because I decided to try only replying when I actually have something to add instead of "this is awesome!" (even though it is) (although I did have the tab open for a couple of days before I found the attention your story deserved).
Personally (and I'm aware opinions differ) I don't mind when the board is quiet as long as the stuff that does get posted is thoughtful.

Rog, do you mean Cram's piece about No-pants?
I think this would fit with that really well.

The main character could easily be No-pants, in this story, IMO.

Or maybe if you don't want to take Cram's character, give No-pants a "cameo", make him be the "elder" guy near the end, which is No-pants when he grew old :) Might be even more entertaining that way :)

Thanks, Trip. And, yeah, if anyone, "Knows-A-Thing-Or-Two" would be the "No-pants" character.

Also, how the hell have you been? Getting any whittling done lately?

Oh, umm... credit it to either Dimo, TTLC, HMSH, KSC or Cuddlefish of the Infinite Regress. Your choice.

And, hell, I have a few other stories I wouldn't mind getting this treatment, if I can dig them up and if you have time. This was a pleasant surprise. Thanks stranger.

I'd love to see more! I'm still trying to sift though the rants here, there's a lot of good stuff.
