So today, E.O.T.'s steering went out. It just stopped working. So I had to go find him up in the West Hills, and call AAA, and bring him home.

His truck was stopped in the oncoming lane.

I just keep thinking about the fact that in order to get to where he was, he had to take the freeway and cross a bridge, and if this had happened at a different time, at almost any other place on his route to work, or if there had been a car in the other lane when this happened, we would be short one E.O.T.

And man, that would suck.

How do you say that returning to college later in life differs from going as a young person (not that you're by any means old!)?

To expand on what Navcat and Nigel said, I started out in day classes at community college while working parttime then switched to night classes when I started full time (with an online class each semester). The differences were, well, like night and day (hurrrr). For me, a lot of the day classes were like slightly elevated high school classes. Mostly younger people, more quizzes, tests, homework, kids being kids I suppose - not nearly as bad as highschool classes, mind you, since most of the kids still wanted to be there to some extent and could hold a decent discussion, but it still had that...high school feel.

The night classes were mostly older people - those with full time jobs, children, continuing education, etc. Most were focused on the learning at hand when class was ready to start. There were still quizzes and tests and homework, of course, but they seemed more....focused? Meaningful? And homework was given with the expectation of getting it done and learning something from it, but with the understanding that many of the people there also had a lot going on, be it jobs, kids, etc. More mature, I suppose. Could have just been the nature of the evening classes I took, though. I seemed to get on better there at least.

But this was also during a time where I was living with an abusive boyfriend (for the 1st year at least), was estranged from my parents and a lot of my friends (see point 1) and school was probably the most stable thing in my life at the time (besides missing out on the school that I had originally planned to attend and had a good scholarship to). So going to a community college and dealing with all the other BS in my life, I missed out on a lot of the "college experience", but I still enjoyed the classes, particularly the evening ones for the reasons described above and previously.

Also, Nigel, congratulations for being able to go back and pursue a degree that interests you, especially while raising a family and maintaining a home by yourself. I don't have half the responsibility you do and I can't even imagine going back for my Bachelor's, or another AS, right now, even if I knew what I wanted to do. And I'm less than 10 years out of HS

I am fucking exhausted and this sociology class is killing me.

What's really annoying is that the teacher is so nitpicky about the outlines that I spend more time putting together the outline to spec than I do on reading the material.

What's even more annoying is that the outline template she gave us was shit, so even though she insisted it had to be exactly according to that format, I had to change it to make it even workable.
