Corruption in the Met
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:27:31 pm »
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16979424

"Metropolitan Police commander Ali Dizaei has been found guilty of misconduct in a public office and perverting the course of justice."

Taking all bets on the expected sentence. I'm guessing 3 months on tag. We can't have police commanders in jail, it may give the impression that they're some kind of criminal

Edit - He's been given 3 years. An unusual display of balls from UK courts. "Sources" state that his initial 15 months imprisonment prior to it being quashed will be taken in to consideration so it's looking like 21 months. Add good behaviour to that it's probably closer to 12-18 months.

Got to love "justice" and "Quotation marks"

Its only justice if you don't pay any attention to it.

I suspect the flak the Met are getting from other sources due to their involvement in the Murdoch media empire's various scandals means they don't want to give excuses for more people to go after them.

Interesting point: many in the police force, especially higher up, are Freemasons, as are more than a few judges.  Because of perceived corruption and old boy networks in regards to that, Lodge membership has to be declared now as a potential conflict of interest when it comes to investigating police officers.  Not that I think Freemasons are necessarily TeH eViL or secretly manipulating global politics or anything like that...but secret fraternities within the police and intelligence services except in times of great national danger are usually a very bad sign, and almost invariably lead to corruption, regardless of intent.

Corruption, almost certainly. Knowing a few freemasons personally, I'd say they get up to far more surreptitious shit than the criminals I know. As for having a grand secret agenda, most likely not. The object of membership is mainly business connections to line your own pocket as quickly as possible.

If the memberships have to be declared, where would one ask for this information? A FOI request somewhere seems to be wise. I could have a lot of fun with that list.

UK Police are encouraged to volunteer whether they are Masons when they first join. Then if there's any conflict of professional integrity, this can be taken into consideration as and when it crops up. Any allegations of abuse of authority are rigorously investigated.

By The Independent Police Complaints Commission. (Some Policemen)

And meanwhile, Murdoch gets to re-publish "The News of the World" every Sunday again.
As long as he calls it "The Sunday Sun"

Bump.  See http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php/topic,31690.msg1155253.html#msg1155253

Also speculation on the nature of the Met/News International/government relationship.
