That line from the father's song in Mary Poppins, where he's going on about how nothing can go wrong, in Britain in 1910.  That's about the point I realized the boy was gonna die in a trench.

was there a bunch of problematic vagina fluff?

Yes.

I have no extreme love or hatred from Open Bar..but I vastly prefer extracting those little personal things that make you people you people from the varied and creative things that happen throughout the board to the hum and chatter. It's like the difference between finding and playing your favorite song VS hearing it randomly on the radio.

For the record, I think it's a terrible idea and I'm surprised how quickly it's been forgotten why the open bar thread was ditched in the first place.

And now everyone's super bummed out about how dead the board is.

I'm not super bummed about anything right now. I'm hot to trot. I could list all the stuff that I like that's brought here from many different people from many different places but that would be silly.

I love this place, and I barely have time to keep up with it as it is. However, forums thrive on fluff and I fear for the health and future of this forum if the fluff is not given space to proliferate.

I dunno, I think the specific fluff is easier to find if there isn't an Open Bar where everything gets buried under general fluff.

I mean, we still have fluff, it's just filed a little better, instead of being shoved into the junk drawer.

I agree, and I really like the individual fluff threads.

HOWEVER,

I think that a general fluff thread serves a very valid purpose. I have not always felt that way, but starting a whole thread can be pretty intimidating for people who don't post often, or for new people. Having a thread where people can drive-by post about unimportant things is the forum equivalent of the icebreaker.

dead > facebook for weirdos, but that's just MHO and YMMV.

Besides, it's spring, people are going back to doing things outside, people are working or looking for work or going back to school...I'm not buying into a lull in board activity as a "sky is falling" moment. Even if the lull is a few months, or even a year or two. PD has been around for almost 10 years now. Barring some black swan event I don't feel as though the long-term viability of the board is in any danger.

But like I said, I'm not going to stop anyone from posting blog threads. This is like the America of internet forums, in that we are first and foremost concerned with selling telling giving the people what they want.

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

Indeed.

I am merely trumpeting my approval of said fluff, in case anyone lurking out there responds to that kind of thing.

We should change the subforum from Apple Talk to Appletini.

I got it. This wasn't a very difficult train to catch. I think it's clever and perfect if you want to annoy ECH and LMNO all in one swell foop.

Now, now, don't go dragging 1SwellFoop into this!

But in all seriousness, I don't think it matters whether we have an Open Bar or not.  People are going to want to socialize which means sharing some of the more trivial aspects of their lives.  It's human nature.  I don't see it as a positive or a negative, just something that is.  And if it can provide fodder for some material, well hard to argue with that.
