Yep.  When CU wanted to come back, I was against it, and said why (ie, the bastard spent months trying to find out where I work, etc)...And, she herself having been stalked, decided that it wasn't a big deal and that I was being silly.  No real attempt to find out happened at EB&G, it was me, so I was wrong.

Then BH comes along.  It was me, so I am wrong again.  She had no fucking clue what had gone on, but if Roger is against him, he must be doing SOMETHING right, eh?

Okay, let me try to clarify by breaking down what you think I was saying and what I was actually trying to say:

Let's take the next part:

No! That would also be irrational. I don't want to kill people. I was in the service in a rate that very well could have put me in a position to:
1. Receive, decode and deliver the orders to the Skipper to fire a nuclear missile OR
2. Travel adjunct to a Spec Ops unit and manage communications somewhere close to where they operate, causing me need to employ SERE tactics and use deadly force to defend myself, evade capture, etc.

I don't want to kill people but my job in the Navy clearly put me at a higher risk of doing just that than yours, no?

What I was trying to say (and what must have gotten muddled somehow) is that the military, by it's very nature, employs use of deadly force to achieve certain tasks. To say "All my choices when I joined were non-violent ones" is naive. You and I both know that there is a possibility no matter how remote you think or were told it may be that you may be asked to take a life.

Here's a snap of that conversation:

1. If all this guy did was talk about what he'd like to do, I don't understand getting this upset about it at all. Does it make him a bit of a sleaze? Sure, maybe, whatever. It also could just make him stupid or naive. There are plenty young men who join the military because they wanted to "blow shit up." The first time "blow shit up" means "people are gonna die, asshole" they seriously rethink their attitudes. There are people who think they'd like to (or could) do certain things and when they get there, realize they really don't have the heart to actually do them. I know people who work in labs who have to destroy lab animals at the conclusion of a test. Many of them go into with a nonchalant attitude and realize after the first one that they really detest snipping an animal's head off with a pair of shears.

The thing is, I didn't join the Army to blow shit up or kill people. All my choices of jobs in the Army were ones that were relatively non-violent, and I've been rather honest about what I did in the Army. That is particularly why I got pissed about murderrapist's personal attack.

Two points:
1. Of COURSE you didn't join to kill anyone, neither have you said or done anything to indicate that you would enjoy taking lives. Troll account is trollish.

2. That said, the military is inherently violent and you are an adult, of legal age and entered willingly into a contract whose terms imply that you will likely, at some point, be required to take a life to not be in breach of that contract. I did it, you did it, I understand. There a level of disconnect from the following truth: "the purpose of the military is to kill people in a situation wherein my elected officials have determined they will not listen to reason." It's easy to forget when you're in your early 20s and indulging fantasies in your head of decoding intel and jumping out of airplanes but it is nonetheless true and your own fault/responsibility if, after jumping out of airplanes, your orders include putting a slug into the head of a 12 year old child, pointing a gun at you.

Here's where I think things got confused: My reference to people going into the military to blow shit up had nothing to do with you. It was to illustrate my point that what people say they want isn't always in agreement with how they'd really react in such a situation if presented with it. Therefore SAYING a thing and actually DOING a thing are to be judged differently. I believe this is an important idea to defend (NOT that I think BH is an important person to defend) because it is what keeps "thoughtcrime" from being a convictable offense.

In hindsight, after your having told me that your job was the source of his insult to you, it was a very poor choice in example on my part. I can easily see how, in your valid upset, you could have mistaken that I was validating, at least in part, BH's deplorable comparison. That is NOT what I meant and I'm sorry for any hurt that may have caused you.

Some percentage of people approach this forum as a community and some percentage approach it as a forum to discuss ideas; i know a good bunch of you know yourselves in real life and been known for years also thru the internet, but i dont have the circumstance to do so (geographical distance, etc.)

From a community perspective you are right, but not from a discussion forum which is the stance in which i am.

I got interfered while i was discussing with BH (thread didnt get splitted, but i guess thats BHs fault for not asking for it do be done); ive seen and remember several ammount of threads ruined by interference like puns, jacking or flame wars and i really dislike it because it demotivates the OP from posting or investing time (might argue "but its BH" but ive seen it happen to almost everyone at one point or another).

On the other hand i know people hate BHs guts and just want to run him off the board and dont care about anything he might have to say.

But I can be genuinely interested in what someone has to say, no matter who they are because i study psychology and im into discourse, no matter the source; David Icke says our government leaders are reptilians? im interested in why those insane positions exist in the first place; why do people think thru the viewpoint of anarchy and related topics? I dont know, and i find it interesting.

Im not sticking up for BH (i dont particularly care), im just trying to discuss shit and analyzing how certain reactions/behaviour interfere with being able to do so.

I have a personal sense of responsibility about at least trying to change the shit way we humans treat each other on a day-to-day basis because if I can't be in the FBI and I can't be a wealthy philanthropist and I feel really powerless and small and it's going to be YEARS before I'm an actual doctor, THE ONLY THING LEFT TO DO IS TRY TO REDUCE THE GRATUITOUS SHITTY THINGS AROUND ME AND TRY NOT TO WASTE OPPORTUNITIES TO BEHAVE WITH KINDNESS AND INTEGRITY.

Condemnation by comparison... here you are establishing yourself as a Good Person. Since you are talking about us and behavior you find objectionable, this part of your post implies that we are Not Being Good People. But it's ok... you're here to help.
