I'm sure that to a certain type of person, history might actually BE boring and unfunny. I would definitely pity such a person.

I don't find it especially interesting or funny most of the time, honestly. Things like plagues and pollution are interesting, but most of the rest of it kind of bores me.

I am sure that to a certain type of person, the sociology of health is boring... I don't pity them, but I'm glad I'm not one. They're probably the sort that find history interesting.

Good thing we don't all like the same things, because, well, speaking of boring...

History is, essentially, everything that's ever happened up to this point. If everything that ever happened is boring and humorless, well...

A lot of it is pretty boring and humorless.  A lot of it is horrible and tragic. Some of it is funny. Some people really get off on reading about historical events, and others don't.

That's the saddest thing I've ever seen posted on this site. That's really depressing.

Your FACE is.
I mean it, if more people took an interest in history and the world they are living in there would be far less abuses possible and apart from that history is inspirational.

If fewer people were impoverished and uneducated, there would be fewer abuses possible, and more people would have the time and resources to be inspired by history.

So, ya know. It's one of those things.
No, those are symptoms, fix one improve the other.

But as you said

History is part of any subject people become educated on. There is no way to become educated about art or literature or science or politics without learning the history of your subject. That doesn't mean that there's some kind of vast tragedy in people not studying general history. I took world history twenty years ago, and I have no interest in taking more history-specific classes because that would take time and energy away from what I am focused on and need to spend my time learning. There is little enough time as it is.

Fortunately there are historians who really geek out on and enjoy learning history. Even those, you may have noticed, tend to focus, and know far more about a specific area than others.

The real tragedy, aside from kneejerk elitism, is that so many people are going without education.
Education is the key. And its inexcusable that there are any who go without it.
On specialisation though, those who specialise do so generally for profession. I'm not saying anyone needs to know every detail of every historical event in fact there are plenty of historical topics that wouldn't thrill me, but a broad general interest in occasionally dipping into it will leads to lots insight.

Nor is it elitism if you desire that characteristic from every single being there is especially as I do not claim to have any greater knowledge than anyone else.
