I initially disliked this album because the lyrics are absurdly childish and pointlessly offensive in a couple of the songs (PLUSism and darkroom are major offenders). Yeah, it kind of soured my opinion of the whole thing. (PLUSism isn’t even good music.)
But on a serious relisten, this album has some of the best ROCK songs I’ve ever heard written. Not just industrial rock, they hang out in the classic rock arena quite handily too once you look past the few electronic elements peeking in.
Case in point:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K-xQxeAeTskFunky, groovy, a little southern rock influence, right at home in mid 70s rock.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kp7UNkI17KQDriving and surprisingly bluesy, wouldn’t be too out of place next to 80s hard rock, sorta AC/DC-ish even.
It’s a good listen: skip PLUSism and just listen to the whole album as if it doesn’t exist and it holds together well. And the singer/lyricist is a way better person than those tracks I mentioned above make him seem, having spoken to him face to face four years after he made this album.
LMNO, CNO and Howl should enjoy.
