A Bit of History, Made Easily Understandable for Today's Citizenry.

They system isn't broken, nor is it evil, rather it's our emerging ability to think of it in those terms that's making us think it is. There's nothing happening in the world that isn't working the same in every other species on the planet, right down to the cellular level. We're the pinnacle of biology and biology is a selfish, greedy destructive cunt of a thing. Biology does not create wise, peace loving, caring, sharing organisms - those are weak as shit and basically get eaten by the real stars of Darwin's show - namely the meanest, nastiest bastards that ever walked the earth.

Actually, in the case of humans, evolution selects for humans that can cooperate.  Altruism is in fact a survival trait.  Bounce that one off of a libertarian sometime and watch the fun.

Altruism within the local group, at least. But that's true for a lot of species... and even cross species in some instances (symbiotic). The problem with our modern society is that bio-survival tickets (money) have replaced the 'tribe' as the mechanism for survival. Altruism was necessary when we all depended on each other to catch our food, grow our food, cook our food, defend our territory etc. These days, if you got the cash, you don't need the tribe. Somehow we supplanted evolutionary altruism with hoarding green bits of paper. So the cut throat asshole behavior of those trying to get as much money as possible is simply a perverse expression of this basic drive.

Yes, and add to that the fact that humans alter their environment, so the usual evolutionary drives are not present.  They have been replaced by the system, which has evolutionary factors of its own.  The system works as advertised.  It's hardly the fault of the system that the average guy thinks that the system is supposed to work for HIM.

Hell, the system even says out loud that it does no such thing, yet the rubes continue to both support it, and penalize members of society that oppose it.

In short, the people who benefit from the system do not have to make any attempt to survive.  That's taken care of them by the people who get sodomized by the system and beg for more.

Saw them down the road at a Thai Restaurant a couple of days ago. There were a lot of them. They didn't smile.

So what's next?  Do we just accept the current state of things as 'business as usual'?  It would be amazing to me if we could somehow change the current system to thrive on cooperation rather than corporation.  The consensus, it seems, is that the System is just too big and out of control and that any dissent or change just gets absorbed or consumed. 

So we are just, in short, fucked at birth?
