Prolly everything will work out. The hardest part will be finding the laundry equivalent of fake logs.

You can just buy fake logs for gas fireplaces. Seriously, I don't think it would be too hard to simply remove all plastic parts and do a conversion.

I've never had an indoor gas appliance. I am familiar with wood burning stoves made from steel barrels. Should be somewhat similar. I assume it would need a chimney.

You can buy ventless log sets. I'm skeptical of how safe they are though, because they rely on an oxygen sensor that turns off the fire if the room oxygen gets too low, and that seems uhhhh potentially disastrous if the sensor fails.
