Negligence kills; its unacceptable for people to cut corners in order to save a dime or to save effort.

Part of it is ignorance; this is the fault of management.

Part of it is cost; this is the fault of management.

Part of it is laziness; this is the fault of everyone involved.

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

Cainad (dec.)

You already know this, Roger, since it's exactly the thing you were sent out there to talk about

but I think it's worth stating directly

Because of what you do every day, people who might have died under someone else's leadership are alive. Because someone had enough sense to recognize the value of what you do, more workers will continue to be alive, when someone else's negligence might have killed them. Your direct influence has helped take a little bit of ugliness out of the world, because you decided to give a shit about human life and put in the work to help preserve it.

I'm all hopped up on brain pills, but I think I got my point across.

there is a direct paralel with something im going thru at my job, which i cannot share unfortunately, but i wanted to add:

there is a huge and persistent problem in any organization that pertains to bureaucratization, in which people with a stable job, after an undetermined ammount of time are into it just for their salary... they forget they have a role assigned to them that EARNS them said salary, and they just become dead-weight leeches that focus on maintaining the appearance of fullfilling a role rather than doing what they should be doing... this not only happens on a staff level, it can happen on the level of entire organizations

Well, the whole point of the trip was to tell the board how I do what I do, how we got through an OSHA audit with no findings, and how we've had zero recordables in the last 3 years.

When I started speaking, about 3/10 listened.  The other 7/10 shut down the moment I was proposing things that actually had to be DONE, meaning, "something other than writing memos, something that might require money or even - hold onto your hat - changing the way things are done on the production floor.

It was about as effective as I expected it to be.   The people that matter listened.  Now they can deal with the inertia.

And an excellent point it is.
