I think you're maybe missing the point a little.

Getting genuinely angry is fine. It's good, even. But it's not a valid reason to shut yourself down to the possibility of discussion. And if you decide to respond that way anyway, just don't say anything at all rather than "YARGANARGH! OH BTW I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS ANYMORE WITH ANY OF YOU." Because that's lame as hell regardless of how you justify it to yourself.

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Freeky

Yes, what he said.

If you find yourself incapable of listening to the other side of things, it is a very good indicator that you should not be engaging in any kind of conversation about the topic at hand.  Or somethiing.  I don't know, because I'm too fucking pissed off that some asstard threw a thing at my fucking face as I was typing this post, and I kind of lost my train of thought.

Understood.  It is lame.
It was a mistake for me to post at all on something that gets me that upset.

I was having a shitty day, and it was a triggery issue.
It's not that I disrespect you.  I do respect you.
My response is totally irrational.
I know that.

I don't think cyberstalking him was the best response.
I think the best response would have been to get him to clarify that he was under the impression that he was making these lewd propositions to a kid, then if he went forward, turned the whole thing over to the police.
My thought would be to put the guy in jail. That's where he belongs if he's going to keep sexting little girls.

He's very dumb or a high-functioning retarded person.
Do you think that makes him any less dangerous?

Edited to add:

Basically, I really did get genuinely angry.  Not enough to throw furniture, but smaller objects.
This while I was typing.
...I really think I ought to just stay off any thread that talks about such things in the future.

I'm really glad to hear from you. I thought you had bailed, and that kind of bummed me out.

The thing is, my post wasn't about him. My post was about the groupthink behavior of the mob who went after him.

True.
Your sympathies seemed to lie with the incompetent would-be kiddie-diddler.
Perhaps I was...mistaken?

...That's what filled me with rage and disgust, I suppose.
So I thought it a good idea to go elsewhere until I was ready to behave somewhat rationally.
I was not exactly myself at that point.

All of us here have sometimes read a post, interpreted it and blown up. Often, our interpretation of the post was flat wrong or missed the point that the poster was making. Then there may be flouncing, or apologies or some combination of those.

So, welcome to the club!

After a certain point, they did. The mob was completely, horrifyingly out of hand and it was fairly obvious that he was A. mentally incompetent and B. had no interest in underage girls. He REALLY BELIEVED that the women he was texting were interested in him. There people were seriously fucking with his life, and believed they were justified in doing so, much like your knee-jerk reaction was that he deserved anything he got. It's fucked up, and reminds me of Zimbardo's treatise on how good people come to do evil things.

Actual evil comes from that kind of mindset. I think it's important to know that.
