I used to play Warhammer Fantasy, and I loved painting and customizing the pieces.

Damn if you didn't need a steady hand, and a magnifying glass, for some of that shit though.

No way! I'm trying to get into Fantasy more regularly. What did you play?

Model painting is the second most fun aspect of the game, coming in closely behind that moment when you've destroyed half of the other guy's unit and lost only two of your own models.

A) Those look AWESOME. I approve of this spaggotry.

B) I happen to have run across some figurine painting tricks:

The Dip Method: http://seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/miniatures/speedpainting_thedip/

The dipping color can also be a thinned down dark gloss. The thinned version pools darker colors in the crevices.

Then you can drybrush on top of that to bring out the highlights: http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/miniature_painting_drybrushing.html

Model painting was the only bit I ever did. We tried playing the games a couple of times but it bored the piss out of us. So I just painted the little figures and used them as ornaments.

I'm up to my arse in Brexit Numpties, but I want more.  Target-rich environments are the new sexy.

Started off with High Elves, but moved onto Dark Elves and then Orcs.

Orcs were the most fun, by far.  To play with, and to paint and to convert.  I used spares from the other armies, like shields and heads and things, and scatter them around the base of the troll and giant units, or hanging off the belts of the shamans and unit commanders.

What I really wanted, but never got, was an entire army of Snotlings.

Also this.  I didn't actually dip, but I would use a base colour, then add the subsequent colours on in layers, using drybrushing for at least part of the process.  So for orcs, black, then a metallic, dark grey for the armour, green for the bare flesh and then finally all the little extra knick-nacks and pieces like the clan symbols, belts etc.

I modded a couple orcs when I was hanging out with nothing but 40K dorks. Never painted them, and I have no idea where they ended up, but it was fun.

I am totally in agreement with you on Orcs, though I like the Night Goblins for sheer hilarity factor.

Also, cave squigs are really easy to just make yourself, no need to spend eighty bucks at all.  Al a person needs is some terracotta, broken toothpicks, a couple beads, and bits of stuff and creatures, to make it look like he's eating them.

I think they changed snotlings to special units, now. :(

I did have an entire Night Goblin themed army, led by Skarsnik and Gobbla.  Of course, I had as many Fanatics as I could.  It was gloriously chaotic.

They also doubled as the slave units for my Dark Elves (house rules).

MOAR MINIS
I painted some of these last Thursday, didn't take pictures until just now because I had to run Mechaknights game right after that.
Some touch-ups were done, and it looks like more are needed of some of the minis for my Spears of the Dawn game.

That dryad is coming along.

Why do you do this, when you know I'm trying to quit?
