I liked how they introduced her, like "her mother died in an insane asylum thinking she was Queen Victoria" and my thought was, I like where I think this is going. I was not disappointed.

Why should we pay you at all?  If you have a second job, you're doing fine, in this economy.  In fact, you should donate some of your pay to us, for training costs and uniforms.  Not to mention the on hand, practical experience of working for a prime leader in the food services industry.

Would it be worth mentioning the increasing number of contracts in the UK where leaving/getting sacked before a certain length on time has passed makes the employee liable to re-reimburse all of the above costs and more, including travel, hotels, food expenses, etc.

Getting sacked and then being handed a bill is becoming increasingly common. I'm not talking about high powered executive positions here either, I'm talking about skilled labour in general. I could speculate about why it's hitting the "blue-collar"(I hate that fucking term) workforce more, but I'd be getting into speculation and probably paranoid ravings.

They tried that here, but fortunately, the 13th amendment is pretty clear about the subject.

Fear not. I have every confidence they'll get around to fixing that just as soon as they get done with the first 12

I'm up to my arse in Brexit Numpties, but I want more.  Target-rich environments are the new sexy.

Naw.  They'll leave 2 & 3 alone.  They REALLY want a bite out of 14, though.

And what's wrong with the term "blue collar"?

One of my first bosses used said it with a sneer whenever he was talking about any of the guys in the shed out on the yard.HE was better than YEW because he wore a "sewt". Every fucking day he'd find a way to talk about how much his fucking "sewt" cost him and how they needed to smarten up. Deplorable bastard. Reducing people to what kind of clothes they wear to work is just shitty to me. It's entirely personal bias here.

I'm blue collar.  Or at least I was, until I worked my way out of the trenches.  I'm rather proud of my blue collar background.  You EARN that, in the trades.

As for your asshole ex-boss, there's all manner of assholes in the world.  Fuck him and his suit.

I'd quite agree. My family were Farmers, Miners and Welders. I'd left a welding job to claw my way a little higher and this guy just didn't get it at all.

Almost universally, every job I've been at since the guys actually DOING shit are fine and everyone in the office is a horrendous tool. I expect this to be true worldwide.

Also, I can't remember the time I had a $27 grocery bill for a week's worth, let alone a days worth, of food.

That's easy, you eat once a day and buy the cheapest thing you can find, like a bowl of watermelon for $2 and a protein shake for $4.50.

A few weeks ago there was a rally in Detroit about fast food wages. I was driving, listening to the radio and some out of touch lady from Bloomfield Hills (wealthiest area in Detroit suburbs) called in. She was outraged because she didn't feel like the protesters 'got it'  "Fast food is something that only high school kids do, or a part time job for mothers, it's not a career"

Let them eat cake.......

I hurt my hand punching the radio.

Well considering Detroit went Bankrupt, I doubt she'll get it any time soon.

On the plus side, we're one step closer to "Robocop"

Yeah, this is a city that has difficulty burying their dead from time to time. Living wages are a long way off.

Bloomfield Hills. :lulz:

When I lived in Pontiac I had a hell of a scam going shaking down the assholes from places like Bloomfield Hills, Keego Harbor, Commerce, etc.

They're a special breed of head-up-ass in that part of Oakland County.

Where the hell else are they supposed to work?
It's not like there's an abundance of jobs there.

...I'm kind of afraid to move out of Houston for just that reason:  Job.  Job may be low-wage, but I haz job, and medical access, and if I go anywhere else, that isn't guaranteed.
