<translation of negative reviews>
This is awful. She's not dripping off the arms of a single man in this video. Not stuck sycophantically to the overmuscled abs of one solitary male. Where's the machismo? Where's the sex? Look at her, being apparently satisfied all by herself riding around on a giant ball, and using the one phallic symbol in the whole video to her own advantage. Breaking through walls and shit. I dunno. It just seems sterile to me. What good is a pretty lady who isn't being dominated by anyone? Why would any woman have a sexuality that doesn't depend on a penis? And what's next? What if they make a sexy video with no phallic symbols at all? Jesus. If this is how the world's going to be from now on, I just don't think I can take it.

TOTAL DEVASTATION. :mittens:

I am fascinated that the people who are squealing about her "sending the message that girls need to be sexually available to men" are COMPLETELY MISSING ALL THE COPIOUS AND NOT AT ALL VEILED METAPHOR in the video. She is not sexually AVAILABLE to men. That implies passivity. :lol:

TL;DR version:  Miley Cyrus is now the centerfold girl for the nation's Outrage Porn.

Which is fucking hilarious.

I think that female sexuality still really scares a lot of people. OH MY GOD SHE IS ACTING LIKE SHE WANTS TO HAVE SEX AND AGGRESSIVELY PURSUED A MAN, HOLY SHIT, SCATTER, WHERE'S THE HOLY WATER?

Look at how sexually aggressive women have almost always been portrayed in films. Anything from clueless troublemakers to homewreckers to psychotic to flat-out evil.

Great minds think alike.

Funny thing is, you're 169% right.  Sexually aggressive women are ALWAYS portrayed as evil.  ALWAYS.

I must be broken on the inside because I can't even be attracted to women who aren't sexually aggressive. Must be all those years as a teenager that I spent calling myself a Satanist.

My favorite part is that there are no men in the video. I mean, she's singing about a destructive relationship, but that guy's an abstract, and she was very much the aggressor. So it's still not about him, it's about her.

For some reason the sledgehammer in particular seems to arouse the wrath of prudes. They are all "it's phallic" but the metaphor is more obviously sex toy than penis, which is also probably incredibly threatening.

I'm starting to understand why my psych professor was so into media psychology.  :lol:

It's interesting.  I have a strong aversion to pop music so the song drives me a little nuts, and I also really don't like autotune.

But, I have to give her credit for not choosing the easy Britney Spears path.

I'm also biased because I have a daughter who was a Disney-era Miley Spears fan so her voice still has a fingernails-on-chalkboard quality for me.

ETA:  I meant Miley Cyrus.  Ugh, head cold making it hard to think straight

I didn't hear any autotune. I mean, it certainly could have been non-obviously autotuned, but I've seen some of her live videos and she absolutely has the voice control that there's no reason for it to have been.
