That's largely why I have it- going to be mad scientist for Halloween.

How far did you go in math?

You surely must have some science requirements before you can graduate, right? Maybe you should consider also taking psychology, sociology, and one of the other soft sciences so you can get a taste of what they're like. One thing I don't really regret doing even though it leaves me with a surfeit of elective credits is taking a scattershot approach to classes my first term. I ended up taking the philosophy of science, intro to anthropology, and social problems which led to a full year of sociology... Now I know I don't like anthropology, the sociology gave me a great basis for my interest in social psychology and ultimately social neuroscience, and it was in the philosophy class that I was introduced to the Bridges program which gave my my internships.

As far as math, I'm currently taking Intro to Differential Equations, and it basically showed me that despite certain aspects of mathematics being instinctive for me, something about parts of calculus I just don't get.
Could I get good or even great at mathematics past now? Sure, but I don't think it is going to be worth my time anymore. I'm sticking out Diff Equations, and then washing my hands of mathematics.

As far as sciences, I am good with that too. I transferred in an intro chem course for that. So I have ONE physical/natural science course. Don't need anything else. And then I feel bad that I don't want to study the sciences.

I have a few anthropology courses that will fulfill some of my major requirements, thing is only a few of them are interesting and those ones aren't projected for the next quarter. I took a single sociology course, and I did not overly enjoy it. And to be honest, I don't want to take any pysch courses at all, just learning about psychoanalytical theory as a method of literary criticism is almost too much. I guess my courses on the globalization of media and on the Enlightenment might also count in there somehow, but I enjoyed them, but not that much.

What I meant by my having no background in the hard or soft sciences is I have the barest minimum, which everyone has to take, so I just sort of disregarded that as having a real background in them.

It's just I know I'll have GI Bill benefits left-over when I complete my bachelors degree, so basically everyone in know said get your masters, but a masters in what? And then what I am I going to do? I was originally planning on going into mathematics because  up until this and last quarter, I had only a little bit of trouble with math. What the crap am I going to do with a bloody comparative arts BA? I could go with the literature track, but it is still the same fucking degree at my college. I feel terrible because I essentially have an obligation to use ALL these benefits I earned with the risk of personal harm. I'm obligated to myself, because if I don't up getting a job significantly better than what I could in the Army, I just pissed away all this time.

And I feel so stupid because math is slowly making less sense to me, but yet I can tear apart literature almost like second nature now, and I sit down and want to write poetry, I can write poetry.

I feel like my value to society is less because I have been pursuing an arts degree.

Have you tried Rosetta Stone? it DOES help.

I'm probably going to hit up Rosetta Stone, for reals this time, over the summer and learn a moderately useful language like German.

You have more than enough math for almost anything you might want to pursue other than a math degree.

I am surprised you don't need more science to graduate, but everywhere's different. I would definitely recommend taking more than just one "hard" science if you can though, because they really aren't all created equal.

That said, why not a grad degree in poetry? If you love it?

I looked at the masters offered at the two other UW campuses, and both have a MFA in Creative Writing, one of them is Creative Writing AND POETICS. And I looked at the actual programs and what is required, and fuck it. That shit looks like something I might want to do.

Thanks Nigel.

I've been telling myself that since I went back to college, but it's been sounding kind of flat to me this past month.

That might be burnout, a little bit. Don't let it get to you, revisit what you love during your next break.

Good for you.

Honestly, it's best to really do what YOU WANT to do. Not what society says will get you the best paying job. Money and stress doesn't buy you happiness. Trust me.

I had a bad case of this last semester. It fixed itself over the summer and I was seriously dying to go back to classes.
