I will say a lot more parents expect teachers to do much more than in the past (I have first-hand accounts of people expecting schools to teach their children how to use a toilet properly, how to handle a knife and fork, how to dress etc), and of course I have my own experiences of quote elite eduction unquote, where you're expected to do practically everything short of sit the exam for them.

But if that was the only problem with the education system, well, we'd be doing well.  Educational fads like MOOC, teaching to the test, percieved low status of educators, general underfunding, privatization of educational establishments etc are far more serious than idiotic parents who expect teachers to make their little darling pass, regardless of effort, skill or understanding.
