My art teacher (rip) was friends with the person who did the original Smokey the bear illustration.
It was a contest ran with a ton of entries from art schools.

I wonder where this is coming from?

It's really just someone who was sick of hearing chemical free. I have the same thing with hearing organic. Everything I could possibly eat is organic. The only thing that I eat that isn't organic is salt (NaCl. No carbon involved) and water (H2O. No carbon involved)

Chemical free is a stupid phrase. Doesn't really matter where it's coming from, it's a Twitter troll with an educational purpose.

Oh :D, ok.

Awesome! I recently went organic too.
I thought all that toxic food stuff was malarkey
and that people just were't using moderation, but I feel so much better!

I was pretty far under the appropriate weight, and I detoxed from all the coca cola and fast food, I craved it like never before. Now I'm actually close to being a healthy weight.

You misunderstand me. Even toxic food is organic because it contains carbon compounds. Coca cola and fast food is organic. Synthetic food dyes are organic. Ritalin is organic.

Yeah, but the "I just took a chemistry class" pedantry that refuses to acknowledge the agricultural definition is kind of juvenile on the same level as the "dihydrogen monoxide" joke, IMO.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

And for the interested, the term "organic" was originally applied to gardening using organic (as in carbon-life based) soil amendments rather than extracted nitrogen fertilizer. The definition has expanded to also exclude any other synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.

If only they could make chemical-free people -
now that would be a breath of fresh air

Its called a computer?

Nope

chemical-free people would not exist, we are just a bunch of chemicals - same with chemical-free computers

note to self never try to explain a joke

Don't worry about that, if it's an issue with the grill just give us the heads up. If its something like the thing from last week its a server issue and it's something I need to fix.

Many idiots are misusing the term though, so the dislike of the term is intelligible.

Sometimes an asshole subculture will adopt a good idea. This really fucks with the adoption of the good idea by the mainstream. It kinda happened with the green movement, decades ago, which is a shame cos if we'd taken more case of the planet back then, it might not be quite so on the verge of fuxx0red

That is also irritating, in its own very special way.

But I think that when you go too far in the opposite direction, you just sound like a different kind of idiot. Like the "ALL GMOS ARE GOOD, YOU IGNORANT PLEBES" people. I'm like, stop, you're BOTH wrong!

There is no right and wrong, not on the kind of scale you're talking about with GM and Organic/chemical, there is a massive pile of good things and an equally massive pile of bad things. Applying reductionism to it, is like saying science is bad because nuculear bombz
