Ecremeditation is the only PROPER form of meditation.  It occurs when you realize that:

1.  You forgot to bring a book into the bathroom.
2.  You forgot to check the toilet paper supply, and you're all alone in the house.

Meditation is something that you use more of as you age, and different varieties.

You go to the doctor, he finds something else on you broke, so he prescribes you more meditation.

Meditation sometimes has certain sexual side effects. Most people hope for super penis powers, but that's usually not what is meant, from what I hear.

I was just wondering if any of you relatively intelligent yet curious-minded people had any theories on why meditation is possible, how it works or how we came to have such a capacity?

Perhaps it's a kind of base level state of awareness that all animals have, and we just don't exist in that mode very often because contemporary life demands a ton of conscious, frontal-lobe action. Something something apes coping with self-reflection...

QuoteWhy does it have the benefits it does?

I think meditation allows some biological processes to function that normally only occurs during sleep.

Bullshit! Meditation is the act of trappping loose quantums, with your mind and using them to actualize potentialities that only existed in a parallel manifestation of universal existence
