So I'm competing for two more invite-only internships/junior developer jobs in the next few weeks.

If you (or monkeys of the non-programming variety) have any ideas or amusingly bad advice at how to land a position that involves multi-day coding challenges to qualify for them, I'd be interested.

One is more front end and the other is more back end, both stressing JavaScript.

In related news, I suspected a program like this was in effect, so if you want a secret invite to work at Google you know where to do all your sophisticated programming searches: http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/26/googles-been-recruiting-programmers-based-on-their-search-habit/

What is it with all the invite-only, hush-hush hiring stuff in the programming world? Or did I just decide to enter the fold when they started doing this?

I'm not sure about javascript tests (I'm mostly .net + sql backend) for interviews but a funny one I ran into a while back was the job interview test questions were the first few questions of https://projecteuler.net/

It's probably not hugely relevant to what you will be doing but it got me into the right headspace at least. I know a lot of devs who are learning new languages do so with this.

Thanks!

Project Euler was recommended a while back by one of the higher ups at this place, so that's an excellent reminder. I'm on it.

I got offered the job!

And it turns out one of their test questions was a slightly modified Project Euler problem....so, thanks again Faust!

Excellent, congratulations. Yeah, PE seems to be a go to for employers making tests for people.

That's more than a little bit creepy

It is an unfortunate fact that every man who seeks to disseminate knowledge must contend not only against ignorance itself, but against false instruction as well.
