I finally was gonna migrate all my shit from my old mac to my new mac, and my old mac is now unresponsive. Grrrr.

In less frustrating news, I learned a new word today, which I think I will have a LOT of use for. "Hoon". https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=hooning

Can confirm, New Zealanders regularly "go for a hoon".

What's the origin of the word? I was speculating that it's an onomatopoeia because it does sound roughly like the sound made by rednecks yelling from a passing pickup.

Oh great, my dad thinks vaccines are made from babies now.

It's actually the other way round.  Either that or they lied in school when they told me how babies were made...

I'd say shortened "hooligan" sounds right. Also just sounds right when shouted. For science I tried:

"Look at him, fucking hoon"
"Fucking hoon's going to get himself killed"

Both are surprisingly satisfying.

Also, I love this, it's just written for the police;

QuoteIn New South Wales, the word "hoon" is actually contained in the name of the legislation - the Road Transport Legislation Amendment (Car Hoons) Act 2008 enacted in July 2008 - which introduced new measures against street racing and increased fines.
"Tell me the fucking law that says I can't do that!"
"Fucking Car Hoons 2008 Son! Get in the van."
