Turns out it's a moot point now. I was a bit misinformed about the timing of a move out to California with a friend. I had thought I'd have a month or two, but I guess he was shooting for about a week from now if poss, two max, and won't have time or facilities for gaming for months probably. Gonna be living rough at first in the redwood forest of NW Cali, the so called Emerald Triangle. I'm about as excited as I can get these days. It's my first time living outside of Wisconsin and I'm looking forward to some serious changes and new opportunities.

That sounds awesome, TWJ. Good luck and keep us posted  :)

I will! Comms may get spotty for a while, FB especially.  I'll probably need to tap at least a few people in to help admin DS 2015. I won't necessarily be asking first as anyone can just immediately step down if disinclined, but if folks are interested by all means PM me sometime in the next week. I intend to remain but may not be able to regularly access FB for a while.

I'll make a point of keeping up here though. I feel a need to keep a journal of sorts for the first time in my life and I'm sure I'll do more fiction by and by.

Enjoy California, Wizard Joseph.

Cheers sir, thanks! I'm seeking a healthier mode of living and expect to enjoy the struggle as much as any profit. I and one of my most trusted and competent friends are going to work together on the venture and attempt to put down roots in the region.. I have never actually lived outside of Wisconsin before. It's a big first for me on several levels.

It's worth mentioning that roughing it is not healthy.

6 billion people roughing it is way more than the planet can support, it's certainly healthier in some respects.  More exercize, interaction with nature, which we are evolved for.  Not so great as far as nutrition goes usually and there's a ton of dangers that civilized living does not include.

If roughing it is so great, why don't you just move back to Roughingitstan?

Homo erectus never evolved for cities.

We sure as hell did.  All the resources you need to survive are right there.  Roughing it means water is there when it's there, and not when it isn't.  It means have fun with that busted leg or absessed tooth!  It means you either mimic the specialists, or your quality of living (or just your living period, end right there.)

Also, you get eaten alive by bugs, ingested with ringworm, and you can't bathe as often.

And that's what we call "interacting with nature".

I spent 10 years roughing it in the army. And that doesn't really count because we took occasional breaks to sleep in a real bed and, oh yeah, food & water was provided.

What I recall is being too hot or too cold, getting rained on, and being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Sounds similar to my time in the scouts.  Only lots more rain most likely because, you know, England.  The Ten Tors was just one long rainstorm, and it was fucking miserable.

Upstate New York only has two climate conditions:  Rain and freezing rain.  There is nothing else.

TGRR,
Is a part of this thing.

Exciting! Have office political shenannigans calmed down, too?

Somewhat.  Which is a cause for worry.  My boss relies on me for technical skills, analytical ability, and leadership, but hates me like I got caught fucking his dog.

I used to like camping, then I joined the Army.
