Sigh.

There is nothing so amazing as watching 80% of FB (it seems) arguing against getting a raise.

That communism memebomb the US dropped back in the 50's caused a lot of brain damage. We're still breathing in the fallout. It also left an unsecured port in the thinking mechanism. I've seen everyone from men in the pub to politicians using it to lead an audience by the nose.

What amuses me with this is if you run it in reverse order with "yeah that makes sense" under the cop, it's hilarious.

I can't believe you need to pay police anywhere near that much to pull the bullshit they do. It's hardly like you can argue that quality wages get quality people in this instance.

That was my initial reaction. It's impressive how much idiotic crap has the balls to claim profundity without any trace of original thinking to be seen.

Somewhat unrelated, but I just don't understand this at all.

From what I know, if I was a young black guy in the US, I would be highly reluctant to wear my pants in a way that makes running away a huge ballache. You literally never know when an armed police officer might try and kill your or your friends. Standing around doesn't ensure you don't get shot, surrendering is not guarantee either. Shooting back results in massive escalation, so that really just leaves "Fucking Run" as your only practical option.

As a white guy, I naturally checked Snopes as to its significance.

Sagging pants became the behind-the-bars thing thanks to ill-fitting prison-issue garb: some of those incarcerated were provided with clothing a few sizes too large. That oversizing, coupled with the lack of belts in the big house, led to a great number of jailbirds whose pants were falling off their arses. (Belts are not permitted in most correctional facilities because all too often the lifeless bodies of their inmate owners have been found hanging from them.)

That's not sourced, so I can't speak to its validity.

Both, I guess. That was my first resort as well and I regarded it as a relatively large heap of nonsense founded with racism. Howard's second theory does strike me as quite possible though. Certainly more plausible than the above.
