Congress: Trump Won't Implement Russia Sanctions—and He Won't Tell Us Why

QuoteWhen Congress sent President Donald Trump a bill in July that slapped new sanctions on Russia, the president signed the legislation reluctantly while lambasting it as an example of congressional overreach.

The administration has since blown past an October 1 deadline to implement the sanctions. Lawmakers are now searching for answers as to whether the president is even planning to follow the law that they passed and he signed.

"If they don't cooperate, then further actions need to be taken," Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told The Daily Beast on Monday. The Arizona senator, who chairs the powerful Armed Services Committee and has spoken out against the White House on its attitude toward Moscow, said the administration has left him in the dark.

But aside from procedural tactics, Congress is essentially powerless in compelling the executive branch to follow through on the law it forced them to sign.

But, as long as the GOP donor class gets their massive tax cuts, I'm sure the majority in Congress will be happy to let this pesky little Russian Sanctions thing slide.

Trump is hardest working President since WW2: GOP

QuoteA majority of Republicans believe Donald Trump is working harder than any other president since World War II despite the fact he has spent nearly one in four days playing golf.

When asked by the pollster YouGov to compare Trump's work ethic to other Presidents, 58 percent of Republicans said that Trump is a "harder worker" than any of them, including Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and war hero Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Here's the link: https://www.rawstory.com/2017/10/trump-is-hardest-working-president-since-ww2-gop/

We've known it for quite a while, but this yet again illustrates that facts don't matter to the majority of Republican voters.

This is why wars happen. Eventually, there really is no getting through to some people by any means other than physically hurting them until they stop doing whatever it is they're doing.

He works hard on a lot of things, it's just unfortunate that all of them are batshit crazy. He's still trying to build the wall, and to institute the travel ban, and fuck up healthcare, and do all of other demented bullshit he promised. He needs to stop working so hard and start spending the rest of the days on the golf course too or else there's a very real and disturbing risk that he might eventually accomplish something, and that won't be good for anybody (except possibly Putin)

QuoteAn election campaign adviser to Donald Trump has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about the timing of meetings with alleged go-betweens for Russia.
George Papadopoulos admitted the talks happened while he worked for Mr Trump, not before, court papers show.
He said he had been told the Russians possessed "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.
Separately, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort pleaded not guilty to charges of money laundering unrelated to the 2016 election.

Is any commentary needed at this point?

Pat Robertson Says Trump Should Issue 'Blanket Pardon' for Indictments: 'He's Got to Shut This Down'

QuoteTelevangelist Pat Robertson said Donald Trump's best course of action after the indictments against his former campaign staffers is to pardon everyone and shut down Robert Mueller's "tainted" special counsel.

Robertson used his appearance on The 700 Club Monday to react to the indictments against Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, as well as George Papadopoulos' guilty plea of making false statements to the FBI. Robertson said there was "not a chance" of Manafort's inappropriate conduct getting linked to the White House, and he went on to recommend that Trump issue a "blanket pardon" to anyone indicted in connection with the investigations into Russia.

Papadopoulos was interesting though, right?  Also showing once again that UK connections to Russian politicians seem pivotal in the Trump campaign (the meeting with the Russian lawyer at the Trump Towers was arranged via a British intermediary also).

Ok, so the election was supposed to be Bernie vs Trump but THINGS happened and I've been wondering how much you guys actually knew about Bernie being doomed before ever starting. Is there a place or time where you guys actually had some evidence to back you up or was always instinct and pattern recognition?
I wanna reeaad it.
O, and I also want to share that every time I imagine seeing Trump anymore I imagine him in a janitor jumpsuit.

"Supposed" has nothing to do with politics as practiced.  A party outsider was never going to beat a party insider, that's the way parties work and why they exist (except the Republicans, because they're stupid like that).  If anyone seriously thought an insurgent candidate was going to win the primaries against someone who: was married to a previous and very popular President, who was a senator for the party, who did a lot of fundraising work for the party, had worked at Cabinet level in another Democratic Presidential team and had put in a good showing against a quite popular candidate in the 2008 primary, they needed to get their head checked.

Sanders was all about pushing the Democratic message leftward, until some people got hopped up on Berniementum and lost sight of reality.

Oh, and Sanders' campaign was run by Tad Devine, someone with close links to Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign manager.  So there was always a suspicion that his candidacy was a ratfuck operation among informed party members (I'm not so convinced, but there is some emerging evidence to suggest at least part of Sanders online campaign was being disseminated and pushed by people with that kind of an agenda...the notorious H. A. Goodman, for example, was a Rand Paul supporter before his conversion to Sanders).

This is a reasonable and logical reply to an entitiy incaple of understanding it.

Some of those THINGS that happened include:

One candidate talking about grabbing women by their genitalia. The same candidate also demonstrated a total lack of knowledge on the USA's nuclear arsenal. Either of those things would have killed a conventional candidacy overnight.

By "Conventional" I mean one where everyone around the candidate isn't committing crimes and meeting with foreign officials pretty much all of the fucking time.

Trump benefitted from [allegedly™] illegal dealings with a hostile foreign power working with savvy political strategists who knew exactly which voters to target with what kind of ads at just the right times. That by itself may not have been quite enough to tip the Electoral College (it didn't earn him the popular vote, after all), but mix that with the usual anti-incumbent sentiment that always happens after a two-term presidency as well as the flares of openly sexist and racist "take our country back from Those People"-ism, and it's a wonder Hillary did as well as she did. On a level playing field, she would have mopped the floor with that stupid combover.

As for Bernie, he never had a chance in the first place. He should have known better than to make a serious play for the nomination. Not because his ideas were bad or because Clinton "deserved" it more than he did, but because it was obvious what he would do to the Democrats if he insisted. Everyone began 2016 expecting to vote for Hillary in November, even the people I know who ended up hating her by the election. That isn't Hillary's fault -- she did everything consistently and exactly as by-the-book as you'd expect a firmly entrenched establishment politician to do. The variable was Sanders, who drove his supporters off an ideological cliff for nothing.

And the only reason anyone is still talking about Hillary right now is the frantic disinformation and smear campaigns flooding the media in a desperate attempt to divert attention from the flames consuming the Trump administration. Everyone keeps talking about the Russian interference as if it's a past-tense thing, for some reason. While they're no longer buying up Facebook ads in rubles and may not have active coordination with the Trump team, it's obvious there is still a semi-organized effort to sway public opinion. Fake news stories haven't mysteriously vanished in the last 10 months, and online pundits are still being inflated and amplified by tons of automated bot accounts.

CMAs get political: Trump mocked in 'Before He Tweets' parody

QuoteIt is not only rare for the CMAs to get explicitly political, but it is even more unusual that a Republican president was mocked openly on stage by some of the genre's biggest stars.

The nearest I get to "country music" is The Grateful Dead, so I'll have to take your word for it.

My post above was prompted by my memory of what "the good ol' boys and girls" had to say about The Dixie Chicks, when they dissed Dubya not so many years ago.
