There's something fishy going on here.  Someone in the WH is clearly leaking the anti-Rosenstein stuff to the NYT, which is happy to play stenographer in this case.  But the attempts to paint Rosenstein as a milksop run counter to every previous profile of him.

Throw in that previous anonymous op-ed, the infamous "adults in the room holding Trump back" one, and I'm wondering if someone is deliberately trying to goad Trump into doing something batshit crazy before the mid-terms.

I've been looking at it as a way to distract from the Kavanaugh thing.  Especially if it's a literal leak of a sarcastic comment.  It kind of worked, too.  Did everyone hear there's a potential fourth accuser, as well as his ex-roommate asserting he believes the accuser because of how Kavanaugh behaved when drunk?

Could be.  But if so, it's not coming directly from Trump, since he keeps dragging attention back to it by attacking Kavanaugh's accusers on Twitter (when he's not getting laughed at by the entire UN, that is).
