It really pisses me off that this sort of shit is still part of the reporting:

roughly 300,000 immigrants living in the country illegally could be affected by the expansion, according to one estimate by the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute.

Because any sane person should know that it is not only "immigrants living in the country illegally" that are directly affected by this. Anyone at all can be targeted, legal or not, citizen or not. The fact that this is already possible within 100 miles of any border is already bad enough (and of course perfectly unreported), but this expansion of the policies to the entire country and the explosion of the time threshold to 2 years instead of 2 weeks should have us all burning shit to the ground. And here's the news, still talking about this as if "illegal immigrants" are still the only target.

I can't find the source, and saw it on facebook so not exactly reliable, but from what I understand when his family tried to sue for wrongful imprisonment the courts ruled the statute of limitations expired during the time he was imprisoned.
