Pretty sure he's only alive as an ongoing example of "don't fuck with me".

I'm assuming a lot of effort is being put into keeping him alive at a very particular level of comfort.

Reports now of 2 herniated discs. I'm not au fait with current torture methodology, but I would guess the back and head are a bit off limits due to the chances of an accidental bugger up.

There's no way he's going to be able to walk out of prison at this rate. Assuming no one fucks up and he survives his sentence.
