As per the article:

"A NASA panel tasked with studying reports of "unidentified aerial phenomena" said at a hearing that the stigma associated with reporting UFO sightings — as well as the harassment of people who work to investigate them — may be hindering efforts to determine their origins."

Further:

"Daniel Evans, the assistant deputy associate administrator for research in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, said there has been no convincing evidence that reports of UFOs have anything to do with aliens. While extraterrestrial origins are not being ruled out, the independent group was convened to address broader national security concerns, he said."

Further still:

"We have a community of people who are completely convinced of the existence of UFOs, and we have a community of people who think addressing this question is ridiculous," Spergel said. "And I think as scientists, the way to approach questions is you start by saying, 'We don't know,' and then you collect data and you try to calibrate your data well."

Well, if it's flying, and you don't know what it is, then duh, it's an Unidentified Flying Object. And, I don't have a problem with investigating these phenomena. After all, maybe we'll finally get to see an authenticated photograph of the Flying Spaghetti Monster in action. Or, perhaps they'll find definitive proof our Mischievous Goddess Eris is behind some of these sightings.

It appears that, at the time of this posting, the UFO High Weirdness Factor is increasing. On Monday, May 5th, I found the following article referenced on a number of websites:

"Intelligence Officials Say U.S. Has Retrieved Craft of Non-Human Origin"

As per the article:

"A former intelligence official turned whistleblower has given Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General extensive classified information about deeply covert programs that he says possess retrieved intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin.

The information, he says, has been illegally withheld from Congress, and he filed a complaint alleging that he suffered illegal retaliation for his confidential disclosures, reported here for the first time.

Other intelligence officials, both active and retired, with knowledge of these programs through their work in various agencies, have independently provided similar, corroborating information, both on and off the record."

Further:

"Grusch said the recoveries of partial fragments through and up to intact vehicles have been made for decades through the present day by the government, its allies, and defense contractors. Analysis has determined that the objects retrieved are “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures,” he said.

In filing his complaint, Grusch is represented by a lawyer who served as the original Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG).

“We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities,” Grusch said, referencing information he provided Congress and the current ICIG. “The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”"

However, this rather long article makes no mention of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or our Mischievous Goddess Eris.

The searches I have done have turned up nothing more than the original article from The Debrief website. Also, The Debrief website appears to have received mixed reviews concerning its overall accuracy. So, the fact that many media outlets have picked up, and are running this story does not make any of it true.

That's the reason I posted this article on the High Weirdness Child Board.

"Las Vegas police investigate aliens-in-backyard report after officer spots flying object"

As per the Article:

"Las Vegas police officers investigated reports of two unknown entities falling from the sky on the same night in late April that a family reported something 'not human' in their backyard.

One officer drove to a home on the night of April 30 and interviewed the family who called 911 after making the sighting, according to body camera footage obtained by USA TODAY. One of the family members told the officer they saw “a big creature” that was “long, 10 feet tall.”

Now, if only this had happened on the Strip.

In spite of the sensationalistic title, this article does offer some interesting insights into the history of the UFO/UAP/Flying Saucer phenomenon.

"The U.S. seems to be going through a veritable UFO craze in recent years. Not only is the public at large and government taking these issues more seriously, but even academics are beginning to admit that they too want to know if the truth is out there. It all begs the question: Is all of this just more conspiracy theory nonsense—or are we starting to really see proof that we’re not alone in the universe?

“We’ve gone on a straight line back to the beginning,” Greg Eghigian, professor of history at Penn State University, told The Daily Beast. Eghigian is currently writing a book on the history of UFO sightings, and he believes that much of the recent discussions and discourse surrounding aliens recently echoes much of what we’ve seen from the past.

“This is all very reminiscent of the earliest years of what was called the ‘Flying Saucer phenomenon’ of the late 1940s and early 1950s,” he explained. “It’s the same basic gist: weird sightings, military was very interested for reasons of national security… It also sparked people coming forward and whistleblowers saying that the government is not playing straight with us.”

It appears the UFO High Weirdness Factor has increased yet again.

"Alien spacecraft allegations suggest the Pentagon has approved conspiracy theories – about itself"

As per the article:

"Shortly after the Debrief article, Australian journalist Ross Coulthart’s interview with Grusch appeared on US news network News Nation. In this interview, Grusch also claimed some of the retrieved craft contained “dead pilots”. Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Christopher Mellon, has also published an article in Politico calling for greater transparency.
 
This looks a lot like an orchestrated effort to convince the public (and US Congress) something much more substantial than “things in the sky we can’t explain” is going on.
 
Approved by the Pentagon?

Grusch seems to have followed Pentagon protocol in publishing his information. Kean and Blumenthal write Grusch:
 
provided the Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review at the Department of Defense with the information he intended to disclose to us. His on-the-record statements were all “cleared for open publication” on April 4 and 6, 2023, in documents provided to us.

As per further in the article:

"If Grusch’s information is true, it is surely both “classified” and “operational security related”. So why would the Pentagon approve its publication?

If Grusch’s information is false, it would probably not qualify as classified or operational security related. But this raises another question: why would the Pentagon approve the publication of an unfounded conspiracy theory about itself?"

"GOP Congressman Suggests UFOs May Be 'Ancient Civilization'"

As per the article:

"A Republican congressman has suggested that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) could be an "ancient civilization" that is hiding on Earth but has only just begun to show itself.

Mike Gallagher, a representative for Wisconsin and chair of the House Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, discussed various theories about the potential origins of alien sightings while appearing on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday.

There, he spoke about the ongoing efforts of Congress to investigate claims that the government may be in possession of technology not from this world. House Oversight Committee chair James Comer announced an investigation into allegations at the beginning of June."

Further in the article:

"Appearing on the sports talk show, Gallagher suggested that one possible explanation of supposed UFO sightings was the so-called "Terminator" theory—based on the film of the same name—that aliens were actually human beings from the future.

Another hypothesis, he said, was that "as opposed to being us from the future, it could actually be an ancient civilization that's just been hiding here and is suddenly showing itself.""

The truth is out there.

"House investigator warns UFOs are beyond control 'in our military airspace'"

As per the article:

"Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) believes unidentified flying objects need to be taken more seriously and that both Congress and the public have a right to know about them.
 
In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Burchett expressed concern that "we have something that we do not control in our military airspace."

Sean M. Kirkpatrick, the director of the Department of Defense's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, testified before Congress in April. He told the Senate Armed Services Committee at the time that the DOD was tracking over 650 potential cases of unidentified aerial phenomena.
 
This number marks a large increase from the more than 350 cases revealed in the UAP report that was given to Congress in January by the director of national intelligence."

Further along in the article:

"For Burchett, it isn't difficult to think the government might be holding something back. "They've been holding stuff back since Roswell in '47," he said. "And maybe prior to that."
 
"There's enough witnesses, enough qualified pilots, astronauts, literally heroes of ours, that have come forward about things and so I think it's pretty evident that government is covering up," the congressman said. "And the reason we don't have any of that information now is a lot of it is so compartmentalized that the people that could connect the dots are long gone.""

So, it doesn't looks like the UFO High Weirdness Factor is going to diminish any time soon.

"UFO hearing key takeaways: What a whistleblower told Congress about UAPs"

As per the article:

"A former military intelligence officer-turned-whistleblower told House lawmakers that Congress is being kept in the dark about unidentified anomalous phenomena, known as UAPs or UFOs, alleging at a hearing that executive branch agencies have withheld information about the mysterious objects for years.

David Grusch, who served for 14 years as an intelligence officer in the Air Force and National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, appeared before the House Oversight Committee's national security subcommittee alongside two former fighter pilots who had firsthand experience with UAPs.

Grusch served as a representative on two Pentagon task forces investigating UAPs until earlier this year. He told lawmakers that he was informed of "a multi-decade UAP crash retrieval and reverse-engineering program" during the course of his work examining classified programs. He said he was denied access to those programs when he requested it, and accused the military of misappropriating funds to shield these operations from congressional oversight. He later said he had interviewed officials who had direct knowledge of aircraft with "nonhuman" origins, and that so-called "biologics" were recovered from some craft.

Members of both parties questioned how Congress should go about investigating the remarkable allegations, a reflection of the increasing willingness by lawmakers to demand the executive branch be more forthcoming about the phenomena."

"The Pentagon's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, which Congress established to investigate the incidents, has investigated roughly 800 reports of UAPs as of May. While military officials have said most cases have innocuous origins, many others remain unexplained. Lawmakers say the military knows more about the objects than it has disclosed to Congress.

Sue Gough, a spokeswoman for AARO, said in a statement that the office "has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently." She also said the department is "committed to timely and thorough reporting to Congress.""

It does not appear that this congressional hearing did anything to diminish the UFO High Weirdness Factor.

"‘Aliens,’ or a foreign power? Pentagon UFO chief says someone is in our backyard"

As per the article:

"This week, the director of the U.S. government’s UFO analysis office stated that there is “evidence” of concerning unidentified flying object activity “in our backyard.” According to physicist Seán Kirkpatrick, who heads the congressionally-mandated All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, this alarming UFO activity can be attributed to one of two extraordinary sources: either a foreign power or “aliens.”

To be sure, the ramifications of either would be significant. But Kirkpatrick’s comments, which come as he is about to retire after a 27-year defense and intelligence-focused career, are more intriguing because he also says that “none” of the hundreds of military UFO reports analyzed by his office recently “have been positively attributed to foreign activities.”"  

And, further along in the article:

"Kirkpatrick’s “aliens” comment fits a broader pattern. Earlier this year, Kirkpatrick raised eyebrows when he co-authored a draft scientific paper with Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb hypothesizing that extraterrestrial “parent craft” could release “many small probes” to explore Earth-like planets.

With the best-known contemporary UFO encounters occurring over the ocean, Kirkpatrick and Loeb’s suggestion that such “extraterrestrial technological probes” “would necessarily be looking for water” to refuel is noteworthy.

More importantly, Kirkpatrick stated in a recent presentation that U.S. government sensors and servicemembers are observing “metallic orbs” that are “making very interesting apparent maneuvers” “all over the world.”"

Somehow, I suspect this article isn't going to do much to reduce the UFO High Weirdness Factor.
