I was surprised to not find a remotely recent thread dedicated to the Russian/Ukrainian War on this board. (That's, no doubt, because this old, established board now has so few active members.)

I do not actively follow The Telegraph. But, as per a quick Google search, this British media outlet appears to be fairly well respected. And, the following well-written article, quoted on an American political website, caught me completely off guard:

Russia's new middle class can't afford for Putin's war to end

'Deathnomics' is transforming Russian society. Few would welcome peace

I'm not, as I usually do, going to post any quotations from this particular article. If the title alone is of no interest to you, then neither will be anything else I might attempt to bring to your attention. But, I will say that I found this article to be a sobering, thought provoking read.

From the looks of it, it likely will subside sooner rather then later, Russia have their "eastern corridor" down to the black sea, it is much harder to liberate a city than it is to defend it, russia is now in a defensive posture rather than trying to advance, its a horrible situation in Ukrain to admit this but it is very unlikely they will be able to accomplish anything else substantial, thats why a lot of the retaliatory gestures have been inlands, with small disruptive attacks on Moscow.

On the Russian side, they have decimated their 18-30 year old male population, they are going to have horrific cultural issues from this, hope the cost was worth it.
