PD may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.  If PD splits open, do not look directly at resulting goo.  PD is still legal in 14 states.

It can be arranged easily.

You want some cheese with that whine?

kids one third my age are fucking each other and getting drunk and we still continue to live our lives blissfully ignorant of the decay of the social world around us, and it seems to me that all the most of you want to do is sit around and make jokes about it.

Explain the part that's new.

it's the difference between seeing refugees on TV and being one, being as how I'm going to be a father some time soon, I'm seeing it with fresh eyes, and it scares the shit out of me.

Nothing new, there.  Welcome to fatherhood...you never get to stop worrying, ever again.

It's part of the deal.

Quote from: Irreverend Hugh, KSCIt's all good. Eris laughs. That's it. If you want meaning for the shit, go to the local Walmart. I hear they have a sale on meaning this week.

Well, no meaning, what are you doing sitting in a house, what are you doing with a conscious brain? Just go out and get stoned all the fucking time. Life is imbued with meaning, and that imbued meaning has an import for us, as individuals and even as a whole. And not even you of all people understand that.

it'
s easy to say i jsut go out and get stoend all the time. ever think that peopel respond better to freindly covnersation than soem rapturous jolt?

patience is the most dificult virtue.

but that's what all teh folks want these days, they want it now, no yesterday, instant gratification before you know what it is you wanted, and death is preferable to doing the work involved. you are them.
Hell is other people.

...and you're willingly bringing another life into the world?  What kind of sick fuck are you, anyway?

East Coast Hustle

I don't actually recall him saying he was doing it willingly, just that it was going to happen...once you choose not to wrap it, willing and unwilling are meaningless terms...it just IS.

Quote from: The_meringueSo I'm not comfortable with the idea of my entire race coming and going, or with billions of people barely seeing the picture before they're dragged out in a puff of heat and light. It takes unease with the way things are to create change, to sustain change. .

For some reason I see these two statements as being contradictory.
Makes it hard to argue with you if I don't know which side you are on.

Quote from: The MeringueSomething's going on in reality, even if it's not laced with emotional content something's going on, and I can't just sit back and be content to say it's just hairless apes running in circles, hairless apes and pointless activities or not, something's happening. and you can only afford to take the perspective of ultimate relativism when you are a hairless ape who's well fed and safe.

What is going on is for you to decide. Most people let someone else
decide - the govt, church, parents, boss, etc. The point to discordianism
is that all of them are wrong. Only you are right. Just because it is
difficult to find the answer, doesn't mean it is not there, and doesn't
mean it is the same for everybody.

Quote from: The MeringueIf it's all relative then is it OK to go around killing and maiming. Yes. it is. But does it get you the things you want? only so long as you're at the top of the pile. odds are one day you'll be like the old head gorilla, beaten by a younger, more fit male and relegated to the outer fringes of the marriage group. If you want to ensure your lavish lifestyle and that it continues beyond the point of your fitness for the top of the heap then you must ensure that as many people as possible have what they need and want.

You have answered the questions and find you do not like the answers.
Find new answers. Figure out how the world should be and then make
it so. I am not talking about passing laws or putting guns to peoples'
heads. You have already rejected that answer, or so I read you. Just
because everybody seems to be taking that "ape" tact in life, does
not mean it is right, or that it is right for you, or that anybody here,
regardless of what they say, believes in it. if reality is relative, then
it is your responsibility to make it behave like it belongs to your family.

Quote from: The Meringueit's the difference between seeing refugees on TV and being one, being as how I'm going to be a father some time soon, I'm seeing it with fresh eyes, and it scares the shit out of me.

Congratulations, I think. You now have the opportunity to get it right.
Raise the kid up to see through the bullshit and think for itself. What

I've seen this sentiment more than once in your ramblings -- if everything is relative (and there is no structure) then you won't be able to keep your place in the social heirarchy. Of course -- relativity doesn't cause the break down of social structure; if everything is relative then you don't have a place to hold and the pile isn't really there. You can't reject social order if you think you're losing the game because if you're losing the game you are still a part of the game. You're trying to interpret one 'framework' from within another, incomensurable,  conceptual 'framework'. In the words of Lord Kitchener, "Stop it! Stop that at once. Go and take a cold tub."

If everything is relative then it is, basically by definition, morally acceptable to go around killing and maiming, being killed and being maimed. Also, IF everything is relative, this isn't a bad thing. If everything is relative then this does get you what you want because the things that your moral framework supports you having as wants are being provided for.

By and large, people (even those people who claim to be strict moral relativists) aren't actually moral relativists for precisely the reason that they want other things out of life. To be honest, I can't think of anything more related to us than a plant that is a strict moral relativist.

Anyway, happy to bore you to sleep about it if you haven't figured out why the paragraph I quoted is meaningless postmodern drivel.

An upturned jug of water does not a buddha make. You're walking farces and eris laughs at you not with you.
For social decay to occur, there would have had to be a time with more structure than there is now.  I am not buying that.  We may have at one time had the illusion of a time of more structure, but it was an illusion.  Take as one example, teen pregnancy rates.  They were very high in the 1950's, but it does not always show up when you look for it.  One reason, most teens who got pregnant got married.  So the teen pregnancy rate was high, but the unwed motherhood rate did not show it as much as it did in the 1990's.  That's just one example.

I think the biggest flaw in your statements is the asumption of a static environment.  Pretty much nothing is static.  There is an ebb and flow.  We get to one extreme and people freak out.  An example of this is the weather.  We had a few extreme winters in the 1970's and the scientists predicted a new Ice Age.  We get a few extreme summers in the 1990's and the scientists predict global warming.  Ask Bathory's Sainthood about Global Warming, but don't stand too close, he might hit you.  I know I would if I had had his winter.  There is an ebb and flow to the climate of the globe we are riding and there is no way to tell how much of an effect we are having.  Usually it means both sides are wrong.  This may have nothing to do with Discordia, but it has everything to do with Chaos.  That concludes the lecture for today, see you next time.
