anyone remember that part of shrodinger's cat trilogy where there's a dinner aprt with soem scientists a pirate and a buddhist monk and the monk's only purpose in life is to say on eline at the party? and his contentment with the knowlesdge of it being so?

probaly bullshit, but in it lies an important analogy.

you're purpose in life is to be doign whatever it is youv'e done and are doign and will do, whatever that may or may nto be, for better or worse, better or worse often being interchangable depending on perception and theperceptual effect on the observers and so on and so forth, as causlaity bounces in and wave forms turn yoru presense in this existence into a further out reachign wave deal interacting with other wave deals, ebbs and flows and cancel outs an dpeacks and synergetic dynamicty and all that fancy schmancy whatnot.

have faith!

Quote from: archie bunkerlet us remidn oruselves that in and of itself for now and ever as far as we can be concerned is this life and our existence in it. be content or nto be angry, be happy, be blisful or be however you want to be, or simpyl are, or how others want you, if that's what you want, for even if it is all her fault, adn it's all pre-destiny, then we still ahve the illusion of Free Choice, and so that whatever choice we make is pre-destined, we still are responsible ourselves fo rth echoices, and that's ht eway it is, catch 22 or not, because the catch 22 is an illusion, a philosphical detbate of the mind. which may or may not relate significantly to what is improtant, but that's nto important here. the point is, well i will quote everyone's favourite middle class sammy davis jr loving racist:

i was at a chinese buffet the other day, a man came up to the buffet at the saem time as me, he said "how
s it goin?" i said not bad, you?" he said, cant' complain, not that it'd matter anyway, because even if they listen they don't really care, and if if they do care, they're nto really listening"

this may or may nto be true, but maybe that was tha tman's purpose in life, to tell me that over a chinese buffet in ogden calgary. i mean fuckin eh eh?

I overheard this thing while watching CNN at a busy airport and listening to their conversation for just a split second and hearing only these words.

You belong where you want to be

That's not true but does it really matter where I heard it said, anyways it is probably important depending on what was said but I forgot to remember.

I don't agree with this for a few reasons. Damn who did say that anyways, you know the first one to say it. Why is that important anyways I mean how many quotes from these famous people were probably told them by some mechanic covered in grease and after bitching at them for a spot of grease on the side of the drivers seat or steering wheel said something really brilliant and never got the credit for it. Even if it did wind up in one of there books or published papers.

So yeah, I don't really know about this belonging where you want to be.

Like that old guy hitting up on the babies well at least as far as he's concerned at the local club.

What about the foreign exchange students? Talk about dislocation and disequilibrium. Well sometimes anyways, not that it really matters.

I want to be on the white house lawn roasting marshmellows?

Anyways, there's probably some truth in that statement, at least in situations where I'd tend to agree.

Someone I forget where and who said it but it went something like this, think like people who are like you and act like people who are like you, hang out with people who are like you.

I don't think they repeated thereselves as many times as that... oh wait. I think I remember where I read it.

The best way I know to reprogram your mind, and thus create a new reality, is to copy people who are living lives you like. Copy the way they think. Copy the way they see things. Try on new distinctions, new ways of being, and see what happens. Because this, my friend, is truly the final frontier.

Wonder why the mechanic said that? Anyways there it is; Emphasis mine.

LMNO

The word "want" goes pretty deep.

It means more than just "I want a beer."

There are unconscious, subconscious wants and desires.

Keep digging.  Gurdjieff's bones are around here somewhere...

You belong where you want to be

i totally disagree.

where belogn where you are now, where you will be, and where you've been, in the proper chronological contexts.

it is how it's sposed to be, wether you want it to be hwo it is or not. it's not sposed to be how you want it, it's sposed to be how it is, other wise it woudl be how you wanted it, instead of how it is.

which is not to say that a person cannto affect change, so much as in while everything is predestined, the illusion of free choice is corporeal, so to say, an din as such, we must act as if we are given free choice over our destinies within the 'rules' of th egame.

soem folks will say "rules?" and "game?" and mutter angrily about there being no rules, an dthere being no game. this is stupid bullshit and these folsk oughta smack themselves upside the face. there are rules. reality is not as maleable as you have imagined it to be. there are rules, bansk to the river, etc. some peopel whore these rules, soem people don't give a damn, some peopel try to break these rules. these rules are unmaleable. they simply are, undefinable, and unquantifiable. peopel who have th ebest sense of them are often sel fmade millionaires, political uh doers(as opposed to the faces that often get elected) and so on.

the question is are you ready to climb into a lunatic lifeboat with a freind or two? to follow the Way it carries you?

man thinks hismelf mightier that What Is, and yet if he only wen tto the mountains, he woudl know he is to reality what the sky at night is to a speck of sand on the beach.

From what I gather from the reply TR and not quoting is that the facts around your life are thus; immutable, unchangable, as simple as that.

I'm hearing this; your where you are ( in the sense of the picture that is your life ) and that's where you belong. If not then you wouldn't be there.

Sounds right by me, what I'm not hearing is the effort involved in getting where you want to be in life. Take the typical success story and behind it was a lot of drive and determination. No swerving to the 'no's' and 'you can't do it's'.

Reminds me of Wall Street (1989?) where Gordon Gecko points out two men on the street one homeless and one in a sleek business suit, he says to Bud " You mean to tell me the difference between that guy and the other is luck?" or something like that. Success effortless? Everything's insignificant so do nothing? Eating out of trash dumpsters when you could be living it up after some kind of paying job of one kind or another? ?Well...

I see you have Darth lots of excitement around the release of the last of the star wars episodes and taking into account what was said in the link from my previous post. Would you consider George Lucus successful? Taking into account the effort to put these ideas onto paper and then onto the screen. I know he had plenty of help, but yeah.

That kind of takes me away from the Determinism vs Free will argument, but the way I see this is fairly simple. Even if everything is determined and that's from the beginning to the end (not ruling out an infinite universe per se) but for the finite time that I'll be around like I said already here somewhere else, at least thinking your effort for something better makes living in an unpredictable world tolerable or something like that. Far as being a lunatic, reputations, character and getting in the boat? Well hell.
