I've never read that.

He actually wasn't much of a snob, from what I know... I mean he liked the Shaggs, FFS.  He liked stuff from doo-wop to classical... fairly open. 

And, I'm fairly certain I've read that he DID enjoy Devo.

On the other hand, Beefheart hated Devo, so...
