Passing
By David Youtz
30 Sep 2003

It is a Passing
A movement from one side to another
It is walking through woods
    As the sun sinks
And eventually you can¬•t see the path
You trust your feet
They always lead you back home
It is holding hands with a stranger
It is sitting in the dark
    Reminiscing
    Swinging your feet
Because your bench is too high
It is parting
    And searching for more meaning
    Behind simple words
It is breathing
You see it in cool Autumn air
    At night, while you gaze
Between treetops, looking for the stars
It is no more, no less
Than placing one foot
    In front of the other
It is a Passing

Evolution
Spinning but let's not
say spinning.

Let's say grinding
moving windmill whirling
Snow storm thunder massive
falling

over my mouth
over my nostrils.
Bending my head to my chest
and sinking.

Dying Dogma
killing the force
before the wedding
day and on
an anniversary
saying
there will be hope
in that there is hope
the dying sets in motion.

I groan my hope
for you
kill the memory
kill the smell of
a knife that destroys
humanness
hope
sensuality...

Break the ropes
fless the coffin
Race to mercv
Hold hands with me.
just like in a dream
you'll open your mouth to scream
and you won't make a sound

you can't believe your eyes
you can't believe your ears
you can't believe your friends
you can't believe you're here

A Plan For Preserving Birdsong
by Dennis Lee

Is it true that tiny lawyers
Hatch in puddles in the spring?
I plan to capture orioles
    And teach them how to sing;
But if they can't, the lawyers,
    Dressed in tiny feathered suits,
Could congregate in sheltered spots
    And play on tiny flutes.

"HPL Sonnet For Extra Credit"
by N (Riff) Conner

The creatures HP Lovecraft chose to write --
Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth --
Weren't simple Bogeymen that haunt by night,
But cut from a far less familiar cloth.
Mysterious beings from a distant star
Flew here on no Saturnian luna moth;
No prison locked with iron gate or bar
Will hold them, for they live within your mind.
These tales, most horrific and bizarre,
Show us things no man was meant to find;
In seeing them, your fancy takes to flight,
And thus, you leave reality behind.
"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons, even Death may die."

Shark
by Robyn Long

My father
lies in his bed,
and dreams of soft blonde hair
and clear grey eyes.
And wishes that he still
had teeth with which to smile
and lure the little fishies in.

My Father
sits in his chair,
and snaps his fingers...so!
And his two remaining
minions rush to cut his meat
or fill his cup.
As if he still
had teeth
with which to bite.
just like in a dream
you'll open your mouth to scream
and you won't make a sound

you can't believe your eyes
you can't believe your ears
you can't believe your friends

Fire
By david Youtz
1999

He is Fire
She is a statue
Made of Wood
One step closer and she¥ll burn

He is her Epitaph
She is his Muse
She let¥s him use her
As the Body of his Work

And so it is written

She is Fire
He is a Portrait
Drawn in Sand
One step closer and he¥ll turn to Glass

Her Epitaph

They are Pen and Paper
Word and Deed
Born within the Need of a Moment

And so it is done

They are Fire
They are an Ingot
Made of Steel
One step closer and they¥ll turn to Tin
And Break again

They are an Epilogue
An Afterword
Forged within the heat of a Moment

And so it is done.

And so it is done.

wooo you lot are very talented poets.

well now i can dare to post one of my only english poems into this thread.
Well, actually it is a cheesy song i once wrote. *guaff*

Little Star

Chorus:
Twinkle, Twinkle little star,
how I wonder where you are
Starships flying over me
Far to high that I could see

After death my soul has flown
In darkness rotting all alone
Lies my body now unsused
It was so old my soul refuded

My it be gray and rotten
My last wish will not be forgotten
To fly to space and leave behind
The race of boring old mankind

Chorus

After burning up in red oht glames
Some tear of sadness no longer rains
A rocket rushing away from earth
Away from mud and worms and mirth

When my ashes rest in deepest black
My soul¥s assured, my body¥s back
Where it has all time belonged
In open space, that I have longed.

Endless Fantasy
S M Fabal
first published AERIE, 1994

The Dragon Stares into the eyes of the Knight,
His glaring red orbs blazing with the fires of hell.
Diamond hard scales gleamin the reflected light
of  gargantuan mountains of gold and gems.

The Knight upon his mount fears not the giant reptile.
Blade flashing in the noonday sun, he charges the great Wyrm's lair.
The Drake archs his neck and roasts the Knight.
Only ashes remain
to be scattered
by an errant wind.

And the Dragon
Ravishes the damsel.

The Magi steps towards the cave, invisible to human eyes.
The Great Worm thinks him a foolish thief.  Easily
Scenting his camouflaged form, The Dragon claws into the Magi,
Whose magic is shattered  by the searing talons.

"Flames will not harm this one, yet I am only flesh."
The thought flashes through both of their minds.
The Dragon's neck archs and tears the man in two.
Only a staff remains
to be shattered
by the Wyrm's tail.

And the Dragon
Ravishes the Damsel

And now to the cave comes the crafty Rouge, bearing
a gift for the Dragon: a barrel of  sweet tasting poison.
He speaks aloud many words of praise, lulling
the  wary beast into a state of swell-headed peace.

The  Dragon archs his serpentine neck to accept
the poison. He breaks the barrel and allows
the deadly nectar into his stomach.  Now
Only his corpse remains
to be devoured
by the buzzards

And the Rouge
Ravishes the Damsel.

A: A blue fish Tuesday!
Q: No really, it this, like, deeply philosphical, or just a huge joke?
A: Yes.

Kubla Khan or, a Vision In a Dream
by Samuel Coleridge

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round :
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
But oh ! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover !
A savage place ! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover !
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced :
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail :
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean :
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war !
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves ;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice !
A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw :
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome ! those caves of ice !
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware ! Beware !
His flashing eyes, his floating hair !
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.
Vielleicht sollst du nicht wissen.

Simon Forman - Of the Division of Chaos

Into darkness then did descend the spirit of God,
Upon the watery chaos, whereon he made his abode.
Which darkness then was on the face of the deep,
In which rested the Chaos, and in it all things asleep.
Rude, unformed, without shape, form or any good,
Out of which God created all things as it stood.
But first he commanded a light to appear,
That all might be seen, that before was hid.
And God saw that the light was good and clear,
And the darkness and light he did then divide,
Calling the one day, and the other night,
For darkness [to] obscure (and day for shining bright).
And a firmament then God did let make,
To sever the waters above from those below;
And divided the Earth from the waters also,
Wherein greatly his power he did show.
Then out of this Chaos, the four elements were made:
Heat and cold, moist and dry, in like wise,
Which are the beginning of all creatures wide,
That under the globe of Luna do abide.
The quintessence (that some men it call)
Was taken out of the Chaos before the four elements all:
Which is the first being, as we may descry,
And uncorruptible, whereof was made the sky,
And celestial bodies all, which do never die.

So that of Hyle, nor Chaos, nor quintessence high,
Is there any generation to multiply,
In species or kinde here in Earth below,
Of creatures abiding under the sky,
But the four elements do make influence,
By their special power into all things below;
And into every specific thing do put quintessence,
To reap such seed thereof: as men do sow,
But of themselves. As they are simple and pure in kind,
In every species together conjoined we do them find,
Creating Sulphur, Salt, and Argent vive -
The inward bodies of things that make them thrive.
Whose gross bodies to destroy, if we them have,
We must not spare thereof to deprave.

Next after this, four elements pure, simple and clear,
That is, hot and cold, moist and also dry,
Are assigned to work on four bodies gross,
The last substance of the Chaos, and of the highest the dross.
Earth, water, air and fire, therein to show their might,
And therein to make generation and bring forms to light;
In every one severally, out creatures to bring,
Which is the beginning and generation of all things.
For heat is assigned to the fire, which doth burn;
Moisture to the air, which doth corrupt and round turn;
Dryness to the earth, the mother of each thing;
And coldness to the water, from whence all do spring.
Heat and moisture are active to generation;
Cold and dryness are passive, in and to each thing;
Fire and air, active by elementation;
Water and earth, passive to generation.
For in dryness of the earth and in water clear.
All things are engendered, before they appear.
According the the conjunction of the four elements,
In each of their subjects severally,
Are engendered and brought forth every creature,
Living or being under the Moon's sky.
The earth is fixed, durable for ever to abide;
The air continually moveth from place to place beside,
And is the life of the fire which purges all;
And the water (for coldness) destructive, men call.
But when they are commixed, one with another,
Not simple, but compound in their elemental qualities,
Then work they in kind by diversities,
More or less as they are commixed by degrees.

If these four elements do work in the fire,
To engender and bring forth some creature,
As the Salamander, ever living therein,
You must conceive well of his commixtion,
Which is by Nature and elements tempered so well,
That he delights as gold in the fire to dwell.
For to the creatures of the fire and his region,
The fire is always most natural.
For that in their commixture it is most predominate,
Which maketh them the more able the fire to endure,
By reason of much heat and dryness in their temperature.
The water to the fire is most enemy.
Therefore, keep fire in water, and moisten that which is dry,
And it will perish and die, and soon putrefy.
For as the fire is hot of himself, and of the earth dry,
So the water is cold and moist of the sky,
Which causes creatures of the fire to die and putrefy.
For cold doth destroy and moist doth putrefy,
Except you know this, study not philosophy.

Likewise, the creatures that in the air do live,
Of the airy substance are most compact.
The other elements which do under drive,
As water, earth and fire, of which they are facte (made).
Yet in the air they most delight, and of it do feed,
And in their contrary full ill do they speed.
For it is omne oppositum under the sky,
Which is the only cause all creatures do die.
For in their simile all things do rejoice,
And of their simile they all ways make choice.

And creatures engendered in the waters cold and moist,
Are sluggish and heavy, are given to much rest,
And feed of such things as that Element doth hold.
For their bodies are gross and of a moist mould,
As fishes, frogs and herbs: milk, butter and cheese,
To feed so grossly, they are nothing greasy.
