Testimonial - Well it seems that most of you "discordians" are little more than dupes of the Cathedral/NWO memetic apparatus after all -- "freethinkers" in the sense that you are willing to think slightly outside the designated boxes of correct thought, but not free in the sense that you reject the existence of the boxes and seek their destruction.

Quote from: ECHwell, they tend to destroy the entire town that they go to, so since one of my best friends lives in Manchestah, then no.

ECH,
did tell them to stop in Nashua on the way to Lowell, though
Thanks, man, I appreciated that one.

Bump.

Because I wanted to post this pic and it seemed like the most appropriate place to do it.  And I know there are some Amon Amarth fans here.

Behold, Amon Amarth bobbleheads!

New album coming out in September.
Same month My Dying Bride's new album will be out.
Oh yeah, cringe, Metallica too. (oh btw, one of the new Metallica songs on the new album is "Unforgiven III".  No troll.)

2008 is shaping up to be a great year for Metal.

You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha, hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yaow!

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It's coming through hell!

Amon Amarth is pretty fuckin cool, in spite of having named themselves after something from a Tolkein book.

You should check out the Folk Metal scene.  I've been exploring it lately and I've seen many bands with LOTR names:  Minas Morgul, Minas Turith, etc.  There's also some new age guy who goes by the name of Gandalf.  It appears that Tolkien's inspiration on the rock scene has lived far beyond the Led Zepplin years.

that is, in a word, unfortunate.

I have found that most of those bands suck big ones.

However, good Folk Metal bands that I have discovered include Moonsorrow, Finntroll, Eluveitie (thanks Doktor Loki for turning me on to them), and Turisas.

Finntroll is good.

Finntroll is really good. Can you link (youtube or whatever) to other good Folk Metal? I'm curious.

Eluveitie:  A Swiss band that plays Celtic-infused metal complete with bagpipes, flutes, fiddles, and hurdy gurdy.  Check out "Inis Mona"
http://www.myspace.com/eluveitie

TYR:  A fun band from the Faroe Islands.  Check out their treatment of the Irish standard "Wild Rover"  A good drinking song for Metalheads.

Speaking of drinking songs for metalheads, Alestorm, a Scottish Pirate-Metal band.  Dr. Payne can vouch for them as well.  Another fun band.

Turisas:  A Finnish "battle metal" band.  Metal for LARPers.  :)

Moonsorrow:  Another Finnish band.  A little closer to the black metal genre.  Quite a bit darker then some of these other bands I've listed.
Good stuff though.

Ensiferum:  Yet another Finnish folk metal band.  Similar in spirit to Turisas and Tyr.  A little heavier than those two bands.

That's probably a good start.  :)
