The very worst "nonfunny nonsensicle" amercian comic I can't stand is "Fred Basset".

I mean, seriously, it looks like it's 'trying' to be funny but there aren't any punch lines.

Most of those other comics are actually funny in comparison to the travesty of Fred Basset.

It's not just you, they are really that dumb.  I have a hunch that they are designed to be a moron detector.  If somebody shows you one of these comics saying "Check out this funny shit"...

Doonesbury isn't meant to be funny really, its an aging hippies rants about politics & life and shit.

The rest just kinda suck, either they used to be good and changed (Dennis is supposedly one of these), or they stopped being relevant.

1. Family Circle - Makes me want to punch babies!
2. Dennis The Menace - Same 3 jokes over and over again.
3. Doonseburry - Only makes sense if you follow politics
4. Blondie - Same 5 jokes over and over again.
5. Peanuts - Has its moments, but isn't usually funny.
6. Candorville - Better before he started doing long storylines.
7. For better or for worse -  :kingmeh:

8. Pearls Before Swine - Definitely a good one
9. Non Sequitor - Currently my favorite comic. I hate when he does Danae stories though.
10. Bizarro - Extremely good but he can get preachy every once in awhile.
11. Cafe Con Leche - Racist piece of shit.

Family Circle is kind of like the Flanders family from the Simpsons. Except worse because they have no redeeming moments. Ever. It's the same ol' corny, syrupy-sweet "family friendly" shite you see in, like, KIDZ NOW! CDs on TV. But with Jesus.

I agree with ECH's assessment.  If Lauren had kept the board, it would be in the same shape as CoG, if it existed at all.  Whether from apathy or design, the board had the same "rules" (ie, Admins are aristocrats, everyone else is either a suck-up or a victim) as CoG currently has.

Nothing specetacular. I was sitting at the counter at my pizzeria in Maine one boring afternoon reading the paper. I have "been a discordian" since I was 17 (by which I mean that was when I found out there was a word for the kind of person I was), but had largely put it in the back of my mind since trying to get serious as a businessman. The Ziggy comic in that day's paper had him wearing a t-shirt with the word "fnord" on it. Being bored, and a little stoned, I decided to google "fnord" to see what sort of weird shit would turn up. PD.com turned up. It was the first forum I ever signed up on. Before that I pretty much used the internet for stealing music, finding porn, and email/MSN messenger to keep up with friends in faraway places.

No, she told me she didn't have time for the site anymore and was going to let the domain registration expire. She was pretty detached from this place for all the influence her existence had on it and seemed quite genuinely surprised when I explained to her how many people this place was actually important to. After that it was mostly just a matter of being chummy for a bit and asking for the keys. She said "sure, why not? you can just have the car, actually."

Fred Basset is American?

I always thought it was British, I know the Daily Mail prints it.  And it is clearly the most pointless cartoon strip ever.  It has a Zen-like detachment from any sort of meaning or significance or humour at all.

British humour does seem to either be amazing or terrible, so its certainly a possibility.

As it turns out, it is in fact Scottish.  Its a good thing the creator has been dead 19 years, or else I was going to email his address to Frankie Boyle.

*quite sweet actually. nearly makes up for everything else. dogs in headgear are adorable.

I dunno, I appreciate Peanuts.  It never really was about knee-slap laughs.  I could relate to the shit that Charlie Brown went through.  And really, the Christmas special, (minus the God stuff) was a pretty stiff indictment of the commercialism around Xmas.  Too bad it went over most everyone's head.

But the king of comics will always be The Far Side.  Mr. Larson is a genius.
