Propaganda Depository / Re: Sympathy and Nazis

The "they will take it out on their targets" works when its a splinter faction with no real political power and a very targeted agenda, e.g. with one or two extreme minority groups as the targets, maximum.

(TERFs would be an excellent example if they weren't currently allied with the extreme right, for instance, and they do still fit the bill in extremely trans-friendly spaces.)

As soon as the group hates a significant portion of the populace (e.g. neo-Nazis hate LGBTQ, Jewish, Roma, MENA, Black, Latinx, etc. people) and/or has any significant political power, /even/ if only indirectly (e.g. even if Trump /really did/ hate David Duke, the KKK would still benefit from his policies) they will already take it out on those people by default.

It's easy to see why this is the case. If they hate most or all minority groups, then they will be bombarded with opportunities for actions that can be explained as "the heat of the moment" or "they started it", giving them a thin but viable justification. If they have political power, they don't need to fear repercussions and can freely act like the shitstains they are.

It's only when they have a highly targeted agenda AND a lack of any political power that they need an actual impetus to begin, because that is the only time they cannot act without revealing their true colors AND will receive the much-deserved violence and/or vitriol that they fear. The argument has merit in limited circumstances, but holds no water here.

Article is trash. The research was done by astrophysicists and not biologists, who went into greater detail. Put bluntly, they might "survive", but only if they were already in their "tun", a dessicated state of biological suspended animation. Active tardigrades in extreme environments aren't much more durable than the average nematode. And in almost every case where everything but tardigrades die, they aren't going to last very long, if they ever even wake up. Also: different species aren't accounted for. It's kind of like saying "E. coli could be growing in the Chernobyl power plant!" because D. radiodurans is nigh impossible to kill with any sensible amount of ionizing radiation and you didn't bother separating the two.

Article here. Still sensationalist trash up front, but it becomes quickly apparent that this was a case of someone stepping outside of their specialty and making really stupid conclusions.

The man responsible for this has committed only one crime: making this death-image.

"White culture." Every time I see this used unironically in a way that isn't critical of the very idea, the person responsible is a shitheel.

Well it feels like a punishment to watch.

It does.

I want to die screaming.

What the FUCK happened and why the FUCK am I rooting for Stephen "Dark Enlightenment" Bannon, even if only in a highly limited case?

By way of example: Same thing is also happening with AHCA -- everyone's balking and passing the hot potato now that it looks like re-election is less important than not being stoned to death on public television for the deaths of millions. Trump goes, "Repeal it now!" And as near as I can tell there's a lot of sweaty foreheads and "Oh, gee, I dunno boss," in reply.

The best part about this administration by now is that it makes the violently insane people ditch their pet projects.  :lulz:

If you can get Mattis and McMasters to say "no" to an excuse to march into Iran on a road of bones, you can do /anything/, as long as its the exact opposite of what you want most.

No other explanation makes sense.  How many times do you have to "test" known technology?

That's actually a good point. There were about 10 tests or so involving new ideas (gun-fired bombs, the Teller-Uram device in the Castle tests, Project Plowshare, etc) and about 5 or so on environmental effects after Castle Bravo fucked the dog, but there's hundreds upon hundreds of tests out there that we know of, and that's just the USA. Most have a listed test purpose, but some of those smell like obvious lies.

You might actually be on to something, by god.

Or Kill Me / Re: The Problem with You People

It occurs to me that when I start hearing this spiel (in its many variations), I get a raging, furious need to become /even more wrong/.

If what I do is Wrong, then nothing Right is worth saving.

Excellent post vex.

QuoteOne of the few avenues I see talked about involves him going to Rosenstein. If Rosenstein recuses himself /after/ appointing the counsel, does the counsel have any Justice Dept official with the authority to shitcan him? Does /anyone/ have the authority to can him without doing particularly weird and potentially illegal things in that situation?

I doubt this is now possible without a mini-constitutional crisis. Whoever is directly under Rosenstein would have to start it or potentially risk charges themselves for failure to do so when their underling does.

I'd say there's big hints about how this is expected to go with everyone grabbing lawyers and hearings on the matters are scheduled in a variety of ways from now till god knows when. It'll reach a point where idiot is just "that guy who is squatting in the white house" and he'll be treated as an irrelevance. Anything he does probably only adds to the case(s) against him at this point.

Trump is already an irrelevance. The past two days or so, news about him is his impotent twitter-flailing or side-mentions in articles about everyone else lawyering up -- and Mueller gearing up to stick his dick in Trump's bank account.

Two full days.

He barely exists at this point, everything going on is so much bigger than the Bad Hair.

Deputy AG Rosenstein may also have to recuse himself from the investigation.  As the special counsel is now investigating the potential obstruction of justice in addition to the Russia allegations, and Rosenstein may be called upon as a witness to the former, he cannot continue to preside over a case he is involved with.

If that occurs, what does that mean WRT Trump potentially trying to bury Mueller?

I kind of like the idea of a judicial secret police aimed at keeping the top leadership honest.

Pence is hiring outside legal help

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/pence-hires-outside-counsel-to-deal-with-russia-probe-inquiries/2017/06/15/c40ef55c-51f5-11e7-a973-3dae94ed3eb7_story.html?tid=ss_fb&utm_term=.23967684a357

Screams innocent to me.

Could be he doesn't believe Trump's lawyer wont throw him under a bus.  I'd worry about that, in his position.  Then again, I don't believe Pence is anywhere as innocent as he's making out either...

Idiots attorney has also hired a lawyer.

Nothing screams innocent like your lawyer lawyering up.

Are you fucking serious. I can't find this, can you link?

So monkey brains (and, by extension, very probably /our own/) literally encode faces in the same exact way that a Bethesda RPG encodes faces. That is astounding and hilarious.
